Shannon Airport forecasts more than 60,000 passengers over June Bank Holiday Weekend

This marks a 9pc increase in passenger numbers on the same period in 2024. The airport has 36 services in operations to a wide variety of destinations, with recent additions of flights to the Portuguese island of Madeira, plus returning flights to New York and Chicago proving extremely popular. Shannon Airport noted that following the recent stretch of sunshine, passengers are eager for more, with busy flights departing for sun-soaked destinations such as Alicante, Beziers, Faro, Malaga, Naples and Porto. TUI's new service to Palma de Mallorca has also increased numbers through the airport, with weekly trips providing an additional 6,800 seats from the airport across the summer season. Meanwhile, inbound tourists are using Shannon Airport as a gateway to the west coast, combining the rural beauty of the Wild Atlantic Way with vibrant city breaks for the ultimate Irish experience. Transatlantic flight re-routes to Shannon Airport for medical emergency

Royal Jordanian flight RJA-283 took off from Washington in the US before making contact with air traffic controllers in Ireland. The crew informed Irish ground staff of an unwell passenger on board. The plane was cleared to reroute to Shannon Airport, as per the crew's request, and the National Ambulance Service was advised of the incoming aircraft. The transatlantic flight landed at Shannon Airport shortly after 8am, where the patient onboard was assessed before they were transported to University Hospital Limerick for further treatment. The flight took off again just after 10.30am, continuing its journey to the Jordanian capital city. A spokesperson for The Shannon Airport Group said: 'We can confirm that a Royal Jordanian flight from Washington to Amman diverted to Shannon Airport at 7:10 this morning due to a medical emergency. A passenger was transferred to UHL by ambulance and the aircraft departed Shannon again at 10:38.'
