NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) – The City of Norfolk released information to the public on how this week's winter storm will impact city services. Snow is expected to begin falling late Wednesday morning and continue through Thursday evening. WAVY Weather Detailed Forecast All City of Norfolk government offices, recreation centers and libraries, including The Slover, will be closed on Wednesday, Feb. 19. This includes the Norfolk Animal Care Center, MacArthur Memorial, Nauticus, Offices of the Treasurer and Commissioner of the Revenue and the Norfolk Courthouse as well as the Virginia Zoo and Chrysler Museum. The Norfolk Botanical Garden will close at noon on Wednesday, Feb. 19. MacArthur Memorial's screening of Sands of Iwo Jima has been rescheduled to Friday, Feb. 28. Regular trash collection on Wednesday, Feb. 19. Routes for Thursday, Feb. 20, will be collected on Saturday, Feb. 22. Routes for Friday, Feb. 21, will be collected on Monday, Feb. 24. All bulk and yard waste collections for the remainder of this week have been cancelled. Street parking will be removed downtown along Boush St., Granby St., Main St. and Waterside Dr. starting Tuesday, Feb. 18, at 10 p.m. until Saturday, Feb. 22, at 1 p.m. to allow for plowing operations. The York Street Garage and Brambleton Lot will be open until 9 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 22, for residents who need parking Downtown. Water Street will be closed from the Dominion Tower garage exit to Main Street/Park Avenue to accommodate snow stacking operations. Hampton Roads Transit service is suspended as of 4pm Wednesday, February 19 and will not operate Thursday, February 20. Visit for full details and updates. HRT to suspend services early on Wednesday, all day Thursday due to winter storm Public Works crews have been treating underpasses, bridges and major intersections. Plowing begins when two inches of snow is accumulated, and conditions are safe to do so. Residents are asked to stay off the roads, if possible, once the snow begins so crews can operate and emergency vehicles can respond without interference. A reminder that Norfolk City Code (Sec. 42-34) states it is the property owner or occupant's responsibility to clean snow from sidewalks abutting their property. Norfolk Public Schools will close for in-person learning on Wednesday, Feb. 19. NPS staff members are expected to work remotely in accordance with direction provided by school-level/departmental supervisors. All students will transition to remote learning. Time changes for the Thursday, Feb. 20 doubleheader at Chartway Arena. Women's basketball is now at 2 p.m. with the Men's game moved to a 5 p.m. start time. Follow for more details.
