Tragic young Dundalk musician remembered at tribute gig
The twenty-year old student from Langfield, Dublin Road, had been a member of the up and coming band imBau and had played a gig with them just a few nights before his death on April 8 to mark the launch of their debut EP. A special tribute gig took place at The Spirit Store with a host of local bands and musicians taking to the stage in memory of the young musician who had made a big impression, not just with his musical talent but with his engaging personality. Just Mustard, The Mary Wallopers, Negro Impacto, Jinx Lennon, Muckno, Mark Durnin, Elephant, Rowan Murphy and Ranier's own band imBau, played at what the team at The Spirit Store described as 'a profoundly moving and bittersweet occasion. ' "The overwhelming display of love and support was nothing short of inspiring,' they said, thanking all the musicians for their collaborative efforts in creating a memorable musical tribute to Ranier, and also thanking the stage crew and sound team for their tireless dedication in ensuring a fitting tribute. In a moving post on social media, the addressed Ranier's family and friends, 'his unwavering supporters', saying 'your strength and mutual support during this difficult period have been deeply heart warming. You have all made him incredibly proud.' Ranier, who was in the final year of his studies at Maynooth University is survived by his heart-broken parents Robert and Lea and brothers Riordan and Rian. Donations can still be made to a GoFundMe appeal set up in Ranier's memory to support his family.
