Colchester Young Farmers deliver record-breaking compost fundraiser for charity

Colchester Young Farmers have delivered a record-breaking compost fundraiser for a cancer foundation. The group have successfully delivering 67 bulk bags and 76 small bags of compost across Colchester and surrounding villages on Saturday, February 22. The annual initiative raised an impressive £2,600 for The Tom Bowdidge Youth Cancer Foundation, which supports teenagers and young adults suffering from cancer, as well as their families. A spokesman for Colchester Young Farmers said: "2025 has been a record year, raising more than £2,600. The group delivered dozens of compost across Colchester (Image: Erin Thomas) "We must thank everybody who ordered and donated, the money raised will allow so many young people live their life to the full. "Special thanks to MKM Colchester, Birch Airfield Composting Services and G & J Barron for their donations and support to the event, as well as all other Colchester YFC supporters and members for making the event a success." The event takes a lot of planning and organisation, with orders being taken one to two months before the day. Specific routes are planned to ensure efficient delivery. The members of the club spend the weekend before deliveries "bagging up" the compost, getting their hands dirty. Delivery locations ranged from Mersea Island, to Nayland, so prior planning was essential. The spokesman added: "We cannot wait to do it all again next year, and hopefully beat the record. "Keep an eye out for the poster in the new year. "If you are aged 16-28 and have an interest in the outdoors, want to make friends, have fun and help raise money for charity, please get in touch via our Facebook or Instagram pages. "Remember, you don't have to be a farmer, to be a Young Farmer."
