York businesses take part in city pancake race

Businesses from the Goodramgate area took part on Shrove Tuesday in the annual Pancake Race at Bedern Hall in the centre of York. Contestants from retail, restaurant and other businesses under the arched entrance to Bedern to compete for the coveted golden frying pan, which last year was won by The YorkBID Chair of the Goodramgate Traders Association, Zoe Sinclair of Ambiente Tapas said: 'We are looking to promote the great mix of independent businesses we have in the Goodramgate area, to create links and partnerships between us and basically to have a bit of fun!' Roger Lee Director at Bedern Hall said: 'The Annual Hospitality Pancake Race used to be a big event in the City which disappeared for various reasons at the end of the 1990's. Sharing this revival with our many neighbours in Goodramgate is a great way to hopefully get that tradition back on track.' Available this week (Image: Supplied) Participants included local businesses - Monk Bar Model Shop, Ambient Tapas, Glamour Glisten & Glow, Heritage Travel and Press Green and well as YorkBID, YO1 Radio and Make It York. The winner was Carl Alsop from the YorkBID with YO1's Cai Sherlock a close second. Roger added: 'Bedern Hall re-opens for the season this week and we will be serving traditional and speciality pancakes in our café.'
