Upsetting Emmerdale scene paves way for John's dramatic comeuppance
Emmerdale's Robert Sugden could be spurred on to expose villain John Sugden for once and for all as he risked losing everything after a sad scene on the ITV soap
The gloves were off on Emmerdale on Wednesday, and it could make way for the showdown of all showdowns.
Robert Sugden faced rejection yet again in the latest episode of the ITV soap, as his own sister Victoria Sugden cruelly told him to stay away. Visiting him in prison, she told him to leave ex Aaron Dingle alone, and told him not to move back to the village once he got out of prison.
Literally telling him to start a new life elsewhere, the character left Robert heartbroken in sad scenes as his pleas over their mystery half-brother John Sugden were unheard. With Robert's ex Aaron now married to John, Robert has been accused of being jealous, and just being bitter that Aaron's moved on.
With Aaron telling Robert to stay out of his life, clearly tempted to reconcile despite his marriage to John, Robert was desperate to expose John to the village. The pair had a showdown on Tuesday, where John's "obsessive" and "creepy" behaviour left his sibling convinced he was hiding something dark.
He then vowed to expose him to Aaron and the village, sure there was something "not right" about him. He then told sister Victoria all about the chat in the latest episode.
Robert shared his fears, confessing he was worried about Victoria and Aaron with John being around. As Victoria continued to downplay the situation, Robert told her how John had threatened him.
He said: "Something's not right about him, I'm only looking out for you and Aaron. He wants my head on a spike." As Victoria told him to stop, telling him he was just trying to cause trouble.
Calling him "jealous" and praising John, she begged him to drop the accusations. Robert then told her: "He's dangerous. He turned up out of nowhere and you took him in. You don't know him."
He also told her how no one really knew anything about him, questioning who he really was. But Victoria refused to listen and coldly told her brother not to go back to the village.
She said: "I think it's best you stay away and start a new life. It's what Aaron wants and it's what I want too." Robert was devastated, feeling as though he had just got his family back only to be turned away and face losing them again.
But knowing Robert and knowing how sure he is about John, and the fact he ignores the plea and heads back to the village very soon, can we expect him to finally expose the character? Robert is not going to drop this, not just because he loves Aaron but also because he knows John is hiding something.
Given Robert's character, it's very likely he will pursue his fears, and will go to any lengths necessary to figure out what John is up to. Given the rivalry between them too, might we see John slip up and Robert be there to see it?
If John does go back to playing the hero, is there every chance Robert will figure it out and set up a plan to expose him? It does seem this feud between them is dangerous, so we wouldn't be surprised if it came down to an almighty showdown between the brothers when John's comeuppance finally comes knocking.
