Veteran Tamil comedian Goundamani's wife Shanti passes away

Veteran Tamil actor and comedian Goundamani's wife, Shanti, passed away at the age of 67 in Chennai on Monday (May 5). According to reports, Shanti was suffering from health-related issues over the past two days and breathed her last at around 10:30 AM today. Goundamani married Shanti in 1963, and the couple have two daughters — Selvi and Sumithra. The couple's residence in Teynampet, Chennai, is now open to visitors to pay their last respects to Shanti. Goundamani, widely known as one of the most iconic comedians in Tamil cinema, made his first credited appearance in the 1971 Sivaji Ganesan-starrer Thenum Paalum. The actor then rose to attain monumental fame thanks to his slapstick comedy. His comedy scenes, especially along with popular comedian Senthil, ruled the hearts of the Tamil audiences in the '80s and '90s and are still remembered fondly by fans. After a long break from acting, Goundamani returned to the big screen this year with Otha Votu Muthaiya. Since the news about Shant's death came out, fans of Goundamani and well-wishers have been expressing their condolences on social media. The last rites are set to take place on Tuesday.
