As the MLB trade deadline approaches, Aroldis Chapman has emerged as one of the most intriguing bullpen arms available, and the Boston Red Sox may soon have to decide whether to move him.

"Chapman is in the midst of his best season since 2016," wrote Theo DeRosa, who recently named the veteran left-hander one of nine relief pitchers who could be dealt this summer. "The left-hander has a 1.80 ERA with 33 strikeouts in 25 innings for the Red Sox, who have gone cold and currently occupy fourth place in the American League East. If Boston decides to sell, Chapman could be among the first players moved."

Signed this offseason to a one-year, $10.75 million deal, Chapman has been a rare bright spot in an otherwise inconsistent Red Sox bullpen. In 30 appearances, he has posted a 1.65 ERA over 27 1/3 innings with a dominant 34 percent strikeout rate. His fastball velocity and command have returned to elite form, resulting in a likely All-Star nod in the mid-summer classic.
In the middle of a nine-game stretch against the AL East, the Red Sox have already won two of three games over the New York Yankees, and if they come out winners by the end of the week, it could prompt the Red Sox to refrain from selling in the immediate future.

However, Monday's loss vs. the Tampa Bay Rays dropped the Red Sox to 32–36 on the year. Unless Boston can reverse course quickly, Chapman could become trade bait at the deadline and net Boston quite the return for the once again dominant closer.
