TOKYO -- Nikkei Film production "The sound of engines vanishing in Thailand" has won a Silver Award in the documentary section at the US International Awards, the organizers announced on Wednesday, marking the first time a non-broadcast Japanese outlet has received such an accolade.
The video, which was entered in the competition's automotive and mobility subcategory, focuses on the rapid acceleration of Chinese electric vehicles into Thailand's auto market, where Japanese cars have long been dominant. It features Japanese automobile executives sharing their concerns as Thai workers shift to Chinese EV makers, while highlighting how Japanese dealership sites are being taken over by Chinese rivals.
Nikkei Film is a video series with distinctive stories on a variety of subjects, including global issues such as shifting geopolitics, economic trends and key figures shaping the world. The series runs regularly in Nikkei's digital edition and offers insights into both local and global developments.
The US International Awards honor top documentary and video works from around the world. The competition launched in 2021 as the successor to the U.S. International Film and Video Festival, an event with a history of over 50 years. It draws entries every year from global broadcasters and online media outlets.
