Al-Qadsiya looks to end West Asian Volleyball Championship on a high
RIFFA, Bahrain, Feb 13: Al-Qadsiya Club's volleyball team will play its final match in the Third West Asian Clubs Volleyball Championship today at Isa bin Rashid Hall in Riffa, Bahrain. The team will face Iraq's North Refineries at 4:30 pm, with the tournament's curtain closing shortly after, followed by the match between Al-Ahly of Bahrain and Al-Arabi of Qatar at 7:00 pm.
Al-Rayyan of Qatar, the title holder of the first two editions, leads the standings with 11 points, followed by Al-Ahly of Bahrain with 9 points, Al-Arabi of Qatar with 7 points, Al-Salam of Oman with 5 points, Al-Qadsiya with 1 point, and Al-Masaf of the North with 0 points.
The tournament is organized in a single-round league system, where all teams compete in confrontations. The team accumulating the most points will be crowned the champion.
Unfortunately, Qadsiya has faced defeat in all its previous matches against Al-Rayyan, Al-Salam, Al-Arabi, and Al-Ahly.
Al-Qadsiya's Coach, Redha Ali, cited multiple reasons for the team's struggle in the tournament, including the injury of Dutch professional player Horst, who broke his finger, prompting a mid-tournament substitution with Bulgarian player Zhdanov—who was then injured during the first match. Coach Ali also noted the demanding schedule, where the team had to play tough matches in a short period, including the opening game against Al-Rayyan, the defending champion, followed by games against Al-Salam and Al-Arabi. He emphasized that the tournament's tight schedule did not work in favor of Al-Qadsiya, leading to a dip in performance.
