14-year-old shot dead outside Federal Reserve Bank in Minneapolis is identified
The 14-year-old boy who was fatally shot outside the Federal Reserve Bank building in downtown Minneapolis this week has been identified as Thor William Wagaman Walsh.
The Hennepin County Medical Examiner's identified the boy Thursday, saying he died Monday at 9:21 p.m. at the Hennepin Healthcare ER after suffering multiple gunshot wounds at approximately 9:03 p.m. at 90 Hennepin Ave. in Minneapolis.
According to Minneapolis Police Chief Brian O'Hara, the shooting happened when a fight broke out around 9 p.m. among a group of about a dozen teenagers.
No arrests have been announced as of Thursday afternoon.
Police said the Walsh was known to local law enforcement and the shooting was not the first time he had been the victim of gun violence.
"The tough part about this for any parent is, we don't know who our kids are hanging out with once they're outside of our home, and obviously we do have a problem with kids who have access to guns, so the best advice I can say to our parents is make sure you know who your kids are hanging out with," O'Hara said earlier this week.
Data through May 6 on the Minneapolis Crime Dashboard shows there have been 16 homicides in Minneapolis so far this year, which is down from 21 at the same point in 2024. However, nine homicides have happened with in the past two weeks amid a surge in gun violence.
