New RTÉ special puts Limerick on the map alongside a local music legend
In the latest episode of RTÉ's popular travel series Tracks & Trails the Limerick Greenway and the Three Bridges Walk will be showcased nationally.
Host Doireann Ní Ghlacáin will be accompanied by frontman of Hermitage Green, Barry Murphy, and Stephen Cunneen, founder of Treaty City Brewery.
The episode begins with a cycle along the 40km Limerick Greenway, starting in Abbeyfeale and winding through Barnagh, Newcastle West, and Ardagh, before reaching Rathkeale.
Highlights of the journey include visits to the Desmond Castle Banqueting Hall and the site of the famous Ardagh Chalice discovery.
The trail offers 'a peaceful journey through West Limerick's stunning countryside, steeped in heritage and biodiversity, with outstanding visitor facilities and a warm welcome at every stop.'
The second part of the programme moves into Limerick city, where Doireann joins Stephen Cunneen for the Three Bridges Walk.
Starting at St Mary's Cathedral, the two trace a scenic riverside route, passing through laneways, riverside paths, and past murals celebrating Limerick legends such as Constance Smith and Dolores O'Riordan.
Along the way, Mr Cuneen shares stories from Limerick's storied past, including the Siege of Limerick, before bringing Doireann to 'the best view of the city' from the ramparts of King John's Castle.
