9-year-old completes nearly perfect bracket

LYON COUNTY, IA (KELO) — With March Madness coming to a close, many of us are still coming to terms with our busted brackets, but that is not the case for a fourth-grader from northwest Iowa. Of the more than 24 million brackets in this year's ESPN Men's Tournament Challenge, 9-year-old Breezy Landegent's bracket did better than 99.9% of them. 'I was just like, 'Wow, really?'' Breezy said. 'My husband's work does one, a bracket challenge, so they allow immediate family members to participate in it. Both my husband and I had filled them out, so one morning at breakfast, the day the tournament started, actually, we said, 'Hey, Breezy you should probably quick do one of these too.' So it was a very last-minute decision,' Breezy's mother, Maggie Landegent said. Thrive Housing Fair to be held April 11th Breezy picked seven of the Elite 8 teams and correctly predicted every team in the Final Four. She was also just one point off from guessing the total points of the championship game. You might be wondering how she did it. Well, Breezy kept it simple. 'I just did the best number, so if there was like a two and a three, I would probably pick the two,' Breezy said. And why did she pick Florida to win? 'Because we go to Florida a lot, so I just like that state. So I picked Florida,' Breezy said 'It was just exciting. It's fun when you do something just kind of randomly without a whole lot of thought or effort put into it, and it ends up kind of panning out for you. It was just a fun win for the day,' Maggie Landegent said. After the fun she had during this year's March Madness, Breezy plans to fill out a bracket again next year. 'Yeah, I'll probably do it again, but it's probably only a one time thing that I'll get it this good,' Breezy said. Breezy also won a $50 cash prize from her dad's office, but she has not decided how she will spend it. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved. Emily's Hope naloxone boxes installed at Sanford

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO) — There are now more places where you can pick up a lifesaving tool for free. Naloxone is a medication that can reverse an opioid overdose. If you walk through the main doors of Sanford hospital or its emergency room in Sioux Falls, you'll see dispenser boxes stocked with free naloxone kits. 'Anyone and everyone is able to come and get it. It will be in public spaces that are accessible 24/7,' Sanford Integrated Health Therapist Kayler Ridl said. Thrive Housing Fair to be held April 11th The kits include a couple doses and instructions on how to use them. 'And this is a safety tool that we really want everyone to carry. You never know when you could come across someone overdosing. It's happened in public restrooms, it's happened in traffic,' Emily's Hope Founder Angela Kennecke said. Emily's Hope provides the naloxone kits. With two distribution boxes now at Sanford, Emily's Hope has 10 naloxone dispensers in South Dakota. 'We have distributed some 6,400 doses since we started about a year ago, those are mostly in Sioux Falls,' Kennecke said. Now, free naloxone is reaching even more people. 'We are very forward facing with individuals who are abusing substances, using substances that are at high risk of overdose, so we're excited to work with Emily's Hope and ideally, increase accessibility to this product and save some lives,' Ridl said. Kennecke says Sanford paid for the two dispenser boxes. If your business or organization is interested having an Emily's Hope box, click here. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved.
