Crews working to repair ‘small sinkhole' in downtown Vancouver
A sinkhole at Robson and Thurlow streets is surrounded by traffic barricades on June 18, 2025.
A sinkhole in the middle of a busy intersection in downtown Vancouver slowed traffic during the Wednesday morning rush hour.
The sinkhole was discovered at Robson and Thurlow streets, prompting several lane closures to make room for repair crews.
Traffic has been limited to a single southbound lane on Thurlow, and all four lanes of Robson have been blocked off on the west side of the intersection.
In a statement, the City of Vancouver said an investigation into surface damage on the roadway led to the identification of a 'small sinkhole along an old utility trench.'
'Emergency repairs are currently underway, and we anticipate repair work will be complete by end of day tomorrow,' the city added. 'We thank everyone for their patience.'
Pedestrians can still use the intersection and businesses in the area remain open.
