Potholed roads and a neglected public swimming pool at Hillcrest have been highlighted as major concerns by a DA candidate for City of Tshwane's ward 56, Tiaan Dippenaar ahead of the by-election scheduled for Wednesday.
The ward, a traditional DA stronghold, fell vacant after Councillor Jarad Frimmel resigned on April 1, without citing reasons for his decision.
The ward includes areas such as Hatfield, Brooklyn, Hillcrest, New Muckleneuk, and Bailey's Muckleneuk.
Dippenaar said one of his priorities, if elected a new councillor, would be to address the state of the Hillcrest swimming pool, which he described as still being in a horrible condition.

'It is not being looked after and it is not being maintained. I want to tell you that myself and the DA are ready to fight for the residents. We are here to ensure that this facility gets opened to the public, especially for this Winter. We want to bring back this facility to its former glory to the Olympic standard and to what it should be. We are looking forward to working with the community and we welcome any support that is for this project,' he said.
Before the upcoming by-election, Dippenaar was seen attempting to fill a pothole on Lynnwood Road, but was unable to do so due to what appeared to be a water leak.
DA leader John Steenhuisen recently joined the campaign, accusing the City of Tshwane administration of misallocating public funds.
'It is time that the people of Tshwane take back control of this City and put a DA government,' he said.
The EFF has nominated Sakhilke Masemola as its candidate for ward 56, described as a capable, young, and energetic councillor hopeful.
The party promoted Masemola on social media, highlighting his leadership experience among young people and urging voters to support the party in its pursuit of "economic freedom in our lifetime".
ANC Gauteng Provincial task team member and MEC for Roads and Transport, Kedibone Diale-Thabela, was deployed to boost the party's campaign in the ward 56 by-election, joining door-to-door campaign efforts.
The ANC has pledged to secure a decisive win in the ward.
