DOLTON, Ill. (WGN) — Tiffany Henyard is no longer the mayor of south suburban Dolton but legal cases continue to haunt her. A Cook County judge previously held Henyard in contempt of court for failing to turn over records from her tenure as required by state transparency laws. Henyard reportedly told the judge Friday she was the 'face' of the village but didn't handle record-keeping. The judge ordered Henyard to appear in person on Friday, June 6. Jason House sworn in as Dolton mayor, marking end of Tiffany Henyard era The Edgar County Watchdogs, Inc. sued the Village of Dolton for failing to produce credit card and other records after Henyard's administration ignored Freedom of Information Act requests in January of 2024. 'The massive public exposure given to the Defendant that has brought Illinois corruption into the national public spotlight needs to be addressed immediately to save further harm to the state's reputation,' read the Edgar County Watchdog's complaint. WGN-TV also sued Henyard's administration for failing to comply with state transparency laws. After Henyard's overwhelming re-election loss in the spring, the village resolved the dispute with WGN by releasing additional records. Henyard's spending and leadership have been the focus of nearly two years of reporting by WGN Investigates. A judge previously said Henyard could be fined $1,000 a day if she doesn't give the documents to the plaintiff's lawyer. If Henyard doesn't show up to court Friday, she could be thrown in jail. Henyard is the subject of an expanded federal investigation into the finances and spending in south suburban Dolton and how taxpayer money was spent in neighboring Thornton Township, where she was the supervisor. She is also being sued by Jedidiah Brown, who accuses Henyard and several other people of attacking him during a brawl that erupted at a Thornton Township board meeting in late January.

The new board was sworn in during a special meeting Monday, amid an ongoing federal investigation into former township supervisor Tiffany Henyard. Sources have told CBS News Chicago that the FBI is investigating how taxpayer money was handled in the township while Henyard was supervisor. Henyard's tenure as Thornton Township supervisor ended earlier in May, and she was a no-show for her final meeting. Henyard was left off the ballot for reelection after a Democratic Party caucus for the township, and Illinois state Sen. Napoleon Harris was elected to succeed her. Henyard also lost a bid for reelection as Dolton mayor.

SOUTH HOLLAND, Ill. (WGN) — Tiffany Henyard's final meeting as Thornton Township supervisor took place without her on Tuesday night. The embattled former Thornton Township supervisor and Village of Dolton mayor was ousted from south suburban politics after losing two seats in recent elections. State Sen. Napoleon Harris wins Thornton Township supervisor seat, Jason House victorious in Dolton mayoral race On Tuesday night, Henyard failed to show up for her final meeting as Thornton Township supervisor, and during the public comment portion of the meeting, residents thanked the board of trustees for their leadership amid her tenure. Henyard, who has been the focus of an FBI probe over questionable use of taxpayer funds, lost the Democratic nomination for Thornton Township supervisor during a December 2024 caucus and failed a legal challenge that followed, leaving her as a longshot write-in candidate. In the end, Dixmoor native and Northwestern University graduate Napoleon B. Harris III claimed victory, with nearly 75% of the vote. Records reveal Tiffany Henyard's taxpayer-funded positions paid $347,000 last year It was the second leadership position Henyard had to hand over this year. Back in February, Henyard was ousted from the mayoral ballot in Dolton after a lopsided loss to Senior Dolton Trustee Jason House in the Democratic primary. An Illinois business belonging to a vocal critic of an embattled Democratic mayor went up in flames earlier this week in what is being investigated as a "suspicious" incident. "The fire is suspicious in nature," Dolton Deputy Fire Chief John Calhoun told WGN. "We do have the fire marshal out here currently with our [mutual aid] arson team." The fire began at approximately 6 a.m. on Tuesday and was quickly elevated to a three-alarm response. While no one was injured, the building was completely destroyed, FOX 32 Chicago reported. A smaller fire was also reported at the same location last week, according to WGN. Henyard, who critics have dubbed the "worst mayor in America," has been the subject of numerous allegations throughout the years. The self-described "super mayor" came under fire last month for failing to show up to four consecutive village board meetings after losing her bid for re-election in February.
