Tribal killed in animal attack near Nagarahole

Mysuru: A day after a tribal youth was killed in an animal attack on the fringes of Nagarahole Tiger Reserve in Hunsur taluk, the jurisdictional forest officers launched a search operation to track down the animal and rescue it.
The forest department also released Rs 5 lakh compensation, which was handed over to the next of kin of the victim, Harish, 24, and initiated a process to pay an additional Rs 15 lakh compensation.
Deputy conservator of forests (Hunsur Territorial range), Mohammed Fayazuddin, said about 30 forest personnel were roped in for the search operation. Five trap cages were placed at vantage points, and two tamed elephants were summoned for the rescue operation.
According to information, a leopard was found prowling in the region, and the incident happened when Harish went to graze sheep on the fringes of the Nagarahole forest region.
The deceased's family is now eligible for compensation of Rs 20 lakh, including Rs 15 lakh from the Karnataka forest department and Rs 5 lakh from the Tiger Conservation Fund, because the incident happened on the fringes of the tiger reserve.
