Tresvik, Peralta among college softball's top hitters from opening weekend
Auburn softball began its new era of softball under Chris and Kate Malveaux with a bang by outscoring its opening weekend opponents 44-19 en route to a perfect 5-0 weekend at the Tiger Invitational. Two key reasons for Auburn's success were seniors Icess Tresvik and Nelia Peralta. The duo combined to record 21 hits over opening weekend with three doubles, six home runs, and 18 RBI to emerge as the team's top hitters heading into week two of the season. Their success at the plate has landed them on a prestigious weekly list that includes the nation's top bats. Peralta and Tresvik were included in D1Softball's top 100 hitters of week 1 list after stellar showings at the plate last weekend. Peralta shared co-SEC Player of the Week honors with Oklahoma's Ella Parker after batting .611 with 11 hits, two doubles, three home runs, and 10 RBI with zero strikeouts in 18 at-bats. She began Auburn's comeback effort in the Tigers' 10-9 win over Appalachian State on Saturday by hitting a two-run home run in the 4th inning to cut the Mountaineers lead to 8-4. She hit another two-run shot in the 9th inning to solidify Auburn's come-from-behind victory. Tresvik hit two home runs in Auburn's 9-7 win over Southern Illinois on Saturday, one was a three-run blast that pushed Auburn to a 4-0 lead in the 3rd inning. Tresvik hit .588 on the weekend with 10 hits, three home runs, and eight RBI. Peralta and Tresvik will lead Auburn into the Clearwater Invitational this weekend, hoping to keep its unbeaten streak alive. Auburn will face Clemson on Thursday at 3 p.m. CT to begin this weekend's action at the Eddie C. Moore Complex in Clearwater, Florida. Auburn softball grabs No. 3 seed in preseason bracketology from D1Softball
Auburn softball grabs No. 3 seed in preseason bracketology from D1Softball The SEC is projected to send all 15 teams to the postseason in 2025 according to D1Softball's preseason forecast. The SEC had a strong reputation in college softball before the addition of powers Oklahoma and Texas. Now that the Sooners and Longhorns have joined the conference, its distinction has risen even higher. Evidence can be seen in D1Softball's preseason bracketology, which forecasts all 15 SEC squads to earn a postseason bid in 2025. Auburn, who has appeared in 10 straight NCAA Tournaments, is forecasted to earn a No. 3 seed and compete in the Tucson Regional alongside Washington, Grand Canyon, and host Arizona, who was given the No. 11 overall seed. Should this projection hold up, the winner of the Tucson Regional would meet the winner of the Knoxville Regional in the Super Regional round. Host Tennessee, the projected No. 6 seed, will host Virginia, Indiana, and Dayton as part of D1Softball's preseason bracketology. Although Auburn is expected to earn a postseason bid, D1Softball believes their road to the playoffs will not be easy. Auburn is included in the "last four in" category with BYU, Wichita State, and Penn State. South Carolina is also a "bubble team" for postseason play as they are projected to enter as a low seed. Texas, Oklahoma, Florida, and Tennessee are considered "locks" for a top-eight seed, while Texas A&M, Alabama, Georgia, Arkansas, and LSU have a strong shot at hosting a regional. The 2025 season begins this weekend as Auburn hosts the Tiger Invitational at Jane B. Moore Field. Auburn will face North Carolina, Appalachian State, and Southern Illinois as part of opening weekend.
