Azeem's 100m victory in Alabama a significant step to better times
PETALING JAYA: Malaysian sprint sensation Mohd Azeem Fahmi is taking the right steps to better times in the 100m, with lessons to be better in future meets. The 20-year-old, representing Auburn University, stormed to victory in the men's 100m dash at the Tiger Track Classic in Alabama on Saturday, clocking a season's best of 10.28s.

Sprinter Azeem shows tigerish form in Auburn
KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysian sprinter Azeem Fahmi posted a season best of 10.28s to win his 100m heat (of 12 runners) in the Tiger Track Classic in Auburn, the United States yesterday. Brody Buffington of Georgia clocked 10.29 to finish second and Micah Larry, also of Georgia, was third (10.32). On April 19, Azeem, who is a student at Auburn University, clocked 10.33s at the Tom Jones Memorial Invitational in Gainesville. Malaysia Athletics technical director John Ballard said Azeem is on the right track in the NCAA competition like what he did in the 60m indoor meets in February and March. Azeem shattered his national 60m indoor record twice (6.60s) in South Carolina on Feb 14 and (6.56s) in Texas on March 1. "He is hoping for the right conditions to clock a better time in his coming meets," said Ballard. Azeem, who holds the national 100m record of 10.09s, is aiming to qualify for the World Championships in Tokyo from Sept 13-21. To qualify, he needs to clock 10 seconds flat.
