Ottis Anderson, Tiki Barber join growing list of greats to address New York Giants
Ottis Anderson, Tiki Barber join growing list of greats to address New York Giants The New York Giants continue to utilize their rich history to energize and inspire their current roster. So far this offseason, they've wheeled out such big guns as Lawrence Taylor, Michael Strahan, Eli Manning, Justin Tuck, Victor Cruz, and Howard Cross. Over the past several practices or organized team activities (OTAs), Ottis Anders and Tiki Barber have taken turns addressing the team. Anderson, the Super Bowl XXV MVP and a folk hero for his ability to reinvent himself, stressed the theme of unity and family to the young Giants. Barber, the Giants' all-time leading rusher and a borderline Pro Football Hall of Famer, also imparted his wisdom to the team. Barber is currently a talk radio host on WFAN in New York, so his message is heard daily by millions of listeners. Asked last week about former Giants addressing the current team, head coach Brian Daboll stressed the benefit the words of wisdom provide. "It's something I thought about at the end of the season, getting ready for this upcoming season, some of the things I wanted to do. One of those was to bring some guys in, brought a number of them in," he said. "Give a good message about what it means to be a Giant for them and some different things that hopefully mean something to our players. "Obviously a lot of legends that have played the game for this organization and tremendous football players in the National Football League, and I have a good relationship with a lot of those guys throughout my time here and they're willing to come in and talk to those young guys. I think it's beneficial for them." The Giants are back on the field this week and it will be interesting to see who else speaks to the team.

New York Giants legend Michael Strahan: Taylor Swift is great for the NFL
The New York Giants will host the Kansas City Chiefs in Week 3 on Monday Night Football and that likely means the presence of pop star Taylor Swift. Taylor regularly attends the games of her boyfriend, Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce, which has caused a divide among NFL fans. On one hand, traditionalists are bothered by the attention she generates, while the newer generation and music-to-football imports fully support her. Advertisement Like the fans themselves, current and former NFL players are split. Retired Giants running back Tiki Barber lamented the Swift obsession last January, but Hall of Famer defensive end Michael Strahan doesn't see things the same way. While appearing at the Sports Business Journal's 4SE conference, Strahan praised Swift's presence and what it has meant for the league as a whole. "Sports have leaked into pop culture -- and it's a win for everyone," he said. "Taylor Swift is one of the best things to happen to the NFL." Traditionalists may not like to hear what Strahan had to say, but the numbers seem to bear that out. Advertisement Data shows that NFL viewership is up by nearly seven percent since Swift first burst onto the scene, while viewership among girls aged 12-17 has spiked by over 50 percent. From a business and financial standpoint, there's no denying it: Swift has been good for the NFL. New York sports legend wants Yankees fans to ‘turn their backs' on Juan Soto during Subway Series
The center of the baseball world will be at Yankee Stadium next Friday when Juan Soto returns to the Bronx for the first time since signing a record-breaking $765 million contract with crosstown rival New York Mets. And one New York sports legend wants Yankees fans to show Soto how he betrayed them. Former Giants running back and WFAN radio host Tiki Barber doesn't want Yankees fans to show Soto any respect when he takes right field. Advertisement 'Tiki Barber has called for everybody to just turn their backs to Juan Soto,' WFAN host Keith McPherson told the 'Foul Territory' podcast, adding that he doesn't think that will actually happen. Despite reaching the World Series with the Yankees and having one of the best seasons of his career — finishing third in AL MVP voting after hitting 41 home runs, with a .989 OPS, 178 OPS+, 7.9 bWAR and an AL-leading 128 runs — he bolted the Bronx after one year for Queens. Mets fans rejoiced when Soto donned the blue and orange while Yankees fans were disappointed and frustrated they wouldn't have a generational talent teaming with Aaron Judge for years to come. Advertisement With the animosity between the two fan bases running high, McPherson believes next weekend's games at Yankee Stadium will be like a 'legit movie.' 'It's going to be insane,' noted McPherson. 'The 'F' Juan Soto chants started a long time ago. They're selling those shirts. The Yankees are in first place, the Mets are in first place. It's going to be a collision course.' McPherson, who will be at the game, plans on giving Soto the Bronx cheer. 'I think I'm going to probably boo.' In 38 games with the Mets, Soto has seven home runs and is slashing .261/.385/.478, with a 148 OPS+ and 1.6 bWAR. Related Headlines
