Mass. troopers assaulted during investigation in Boston

BOSTON (WWLP) – Massachusetts State Police troopers and Boston Police Department officers were physically assaulted by a group of individuals Thursday afternoon, during an ongoing investigation pursuing suspects allegedly carrying dangerous weapons. Massachusetts State Police Media Relations Tim McGuirk said that at around 3:00 p.m. on Thursday, state troopers and Boston officers were patrolling in Roxbury and approached two juveniles that were believed to be carrying firearms. One 17-year-old boy was arrested for illegally possessing a firearm, and the second suspect ran away. Police were unable to find the suspect. Springfield Police find loaded firearm, bags of marijuana during traffic stop, arrest made Shortly afterward, Boston Police Dispatch broadcasted a 'shots fired,' describing an individual that matched the suspect. Troopers arrived at the area and found three men who entered a restaurant, then went into a parked vehicle. State police said that when troopers had the suspects exit the car, they became combative and assaulted them. The troopers attempted to arrest the men, and over a dozen individuals gathered to restrain them on the ground, punching and kicking them in an attempt to prevent further arrests. When Boston officers arrived at the location, the joint team was successful in arresting two juveniles and one adult. One juvenile and the adult were taken into Boston Police custody and the other juvenile was taken into State Police custody. 'The Massachusetts State Police and Boston Police Department are investigating an incident in which members of our Department were physically assaulted while pursuing dangerous suspects – one of whom was wanted for possessing a firearm and another was armed with a knife,' said a spokesperson from the Massachusetts State Police. 'These individuals physically impeded police from making arrests, used dangerous headlocks and other force that caused injuries. Violence against police doing their job to protect our communities from illegal gun violence will not be tolerated.' The Massachusetts State Police and Boston Police Department will continue to investigate the incident and may pursue other individuals involved.
