Alleged impaired driver crashes into tree in Iredell County, killing his passenger: NCSHP
MOORESVILLE, N.C. (QUEEN CITY NEWS) — A man could be facing charges after allegedly speeding while driving while impaired before crashing and killing a passenger in his vehicle, according to the North Carolina State Highway Patrol.
Around 8:20 p.m. on Friday, May 30, troopers responded to the crash on I-77 South near mile marker 39 in Iredell County. Officials said a 39-year-old man was driving south in a 2002 Chevrolet S-10 when he lost control, drove off the right side of the road and struck a tree on the passenger side of the vehicle.

The driver, Floyd Dale Davis II, was taken to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The passenger, 43-year-old Timmy Hillard Hartsoe Jr., was also transported to a local hospital, where he sadly died, highway patrol said.
Investigators believe speed and impairment are contributing factors in the crash and say charges are pending.
I-77 South was closed in the area for about two hours during the on-scene investigation.
