State Police said the crash was reported at about 9:21 a.m. Wednesday on I-93 southbound. Investigators determined that a silver 2024 Jeep Compass struck a 2015 Peterbilt tractor-trailer before driving off the road and hitting an embankment, State Police said. The Jeep driver was airlifted to a Massachusetts hospital with serious injuries, State Police said. The truck driver was not injured. The drivers' names have not been released. Multiple southbound lanes were closed for about three hours as officials investigated the crash and the wreck was cleared.
