The destination points for two trains – one originating from Mannargudi and another one from Tiruchendur – has been changed to Tambaram instead of Chennai Egmore temporarily for two months from June 19 because of the ongoing station redevelopment work at Chennai Egmore. According to a Southern Railway release, from June 19, the Mannargudi-Chennai Egmore Mannai Express (16180) service will get terminated at Tambaram till August 17 and the Chenai Egmore-Mannargudi Mannai Express (16179) will commence its journey from Tambaram to Mannargudi from June 20 to August 18. Similarly, the Chennai-bound Tiruchendur Express (20606) will get terminated at Tambaram from June 19 to August 17 and Tiruchendur-bound Tiruchendur Express (20605) will originate from Tambaram from June 20 to August 18. Similarly, the Mannargudi-Bhagat Ki Kothi (Jodhpur) Weekly Superfast Express (22674) commencing its journey from Mannargudi on June 23 and 30, July 07, 14, 21 and 28, August 04, 11 and 18 (9 services) will skip the Chennai Egmore stop and instead stop at Chennai Beach in view of the station redevelopment work, the release added.

Madurai: A daily wage worker died after he jumped in front of a train near Palayamkottai in Tirunelveli early on Sunday morning. Police said the deceased, I Victor Immanuel, 30, a native of Kurumbur in Tuticorin district was an alcoholic and often fought with his wife. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now "He often threatened his wife that he would commit suicide. On Saturday night, he fought again with his wife and left the house," said police. The couple and their son were living at St Paul's Nagar in Palayamkottai. Immanuel went to the railway track around 4.45am on Sunday and jumped in front of the Tiruchendur Express, police said. The loco pilot alerted the officials. Govt railway police sub-inspector Ramakrishnan and his team rushed to the spot and recovered the body and sent it to Tirunelveli Medical College Hospital for a postmortem exam. Police registered a case and are investigating.
