Student absenteeism in main exams costs some Tiruppur govt. schools a perfect pass record

If not for absenteeism, the overall performance of government schools in Tiruppur district in the 2025 Plus Two exams — in terms of achieving a 100% pass rate — would have been even better, officials have analysed. Eighteen government schools and two municipality schools in the district had secured cent percent results this time. They are: government higher secondary schools at Thalavaipalayam, Dharapuram, Kundadam, Mulanur, Pudhupai, Vadugapatti, Ezhukamvalasu, Perunthozhuvu, Nathakadayur, V. Kallipalayam, Karuvalur, Uthukuli, Avinashi, Velliraveli, Kanurpudur, Suriyampalayam, and Udumalpet, as well as Tiruppur District Model HSS, and two schools in Dharapuram Municipality. The performance of government schools was, nevertheless, better than last year when 16 government schools and one municipality school had secured cent percent results. Officials have determined that at least 400 students in certain government schools had absented themselves for the main exams after appearing for the language papers. 'More number of government schools missed out on the cent percent pass distinction due to this factor,' Chief Educational Officer Udhayakumar said. The feedback from the school heads was that the absentee students would be appearing for the supplementary exams to be conducted in July. The government schools have been adopting a strategy of focusing on the performances of average and below average students. Teachers work for extra hours, engaging students in plenty of tests. According to school heads, below average students are identified right after their admission into Plus One for special attention. An analysis will be carried out in June to further devise strategies for improving performance, the CEO said, adding: 'By and large, the demand for admission for higher secondary level is on the upswing.'
