Tiruppur Corporation mulls additional 4 MW solar power generation at Iduvai plant
The Tiruppur Municipal City Corporation has proposed to establish a 4 MW solar plant at Iduvai village, where power is being generated through a 2 MW power plant established under the Smart City Mission.
The demand for power in Tiruppur being high due to the presence of several industries, the civic body has established a 2 MW solar power plant to reduce electricity costs. The Electricity Department transfers all the power generated by the solar plant to the city's grid and offsets the value against the amount consumed by the City Corporation.
A land parcel of 23.38 acres in Iduvai, situated 12 km away from the city centre, belonging to the Tiruppur revenue district, was chosen for establishment of the plant.
There is sufficient land at the Iduvai site for scaling up solar power generation. A proposal has been mooted for establishing the plant with funding support of Germany-based KFW Development Bank, and an inspection was also carried out, S. Ramamoorthy, Corporation Commissioner, said. The City Corporation had invested ₹27.16 crore for establishing the Solar Power Plant.
