EA cuts over 300 jobs, cancels the upcoming Titanfall game among other several in-development projects

Electronic Arts has cuts between 300 and 400 positions across the company, with around 100 positions being cut at the Respawn Entertainment studio. The publisher also confirmed the cancellation of several in-development projects, including a new Titanfall game codenamed R7. According to Bloomberg, this extraction shooter set in the Titanfall universe was in early development under the direction of Titanfall 1 & 2 director Steve Fukuda. This marks the second Titanfall project canceled in recent years, following the discontinuation of "Titanfall Legends," an Apex/Titanfall crossover reportedly shelved in 2023. EA says changes aligns with its future growth In a statement addressing the cuts, an EA spokesperson said the company made "select changes within our organization that more effectively aligns teams and allocates resources in service of driving future growth." Respawn separately acknowledged "targeted team adjustments" affecting its Apex Legends and Star Wars Jedi teams. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Invest $200 in Amazon without buying stocks to earn a second salary Marketsall Sign Up Undo Respawn continues to work on Apex Legends and Star Wars Jedi titles Respawn confirmed it would step away from "two early-stage incubation projects" but emphasized its ongoing commitment to Apex Legends and the next Star Wars Jedi title, which the studio says is "aiming to raise the bar again for storytelling and gameplay." This latest round of layoffs comes approximately one year after EA cut five percent of its workforce, affecting 670 employees in 2024. The company has now laid off more than 1,800 staff members since March 2023. Despite these significant workforce reductions, EA's top executives received $60 million in compensation for fiscal year 2024, with CEO Andrew Wilson alone earning $25.6 million. The company cited the need to focus on "long-term strategic priorities" as the reasoning behind these organizational changes.
