Deltarune chapters 3 and 4 launch June 5 with contrasting gameplay and story experiences

With the launch of the Switch 2 just hours away, fans of DELTARUNE can also look forward to the long-anticipated arrival of Chapters 3 and 4. The new content will be available on both Switch and Switch 2 starting at midnight on June 5, 2025. Chapters 1 and 2 are already accessible on the current Switch, and this release marks the first major update to the game in over three years. DELTARUNE creator Toby Fox has kept details under wraps until recently, but in a new interview with Nintendo, he offered a glimpse into what players can expect from the upcoming chapters. According to Fox, Chapter 3 and Chapter 4 will deliver contrasting experiences, each with its own unique tone and gameplay. Fox likened Chapter 3 to 'a breath of helium,' suggesting a whimsical and fast-paced shift from the usual format. The chapter includes a dressing room and, based on trailers, features a scene where characters form a band—hinting at rhythm-style mini-games. Fox advised players to pace themselves with Chapter 3, as it may be best enjoyed in segments rather than all at once. In contrast, Chapter 4 is expected to be the most traditional RPG-style entry in the series so far. Fox described it as 'a breath of fresh air' after Chapter 3's eccentric energy. He also noted that Chapter 4 includes numerous cutscene events, especially at the beginning, and recommended it to fans who enjoy story-driven content. Like previous chapters, both new entries will contain hidden elements and clever tricks. Fox encouraged players to replay both chapters if they feel they've missed anything, reinforcing DELTARUNE's reputation for layered storytelling and replayability.

Deltarune Chapter 3 and 4 release date: Launch time, platforms, and price revealed

The wait is finally over. Deltarune Chapters 3 and 4 will both release on June 4, 2025 for PC, PlayStation and Nintendo platforms. The game will be available on Steam, PS4, PS5, Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2. The Switch 2 will also release on the same day, making Deltarune one of its big launch titles. Players in Japan, Australia and New Zealand will see the game arrive on June 5 because of their local time zones. It is still a worldwide release, but local clocks will make a small difference. When can you start playing Deltarune Chapter 3? DELTARUNE TOMORROW There is an official countdown on the Deltarune website, but it does not adjust for your region. For those using the Switch 2, the game will unlock at midnight local time on June 5. This is great for fans who want to play it as soon as possible. For all other platforms, the release times are: US West Coast at 8 in the morning on June 4 US East Coast at 11 in the morning on June 4 The United Kingdom at 4 in the afternoon on June 4 Central Europe at 5 in the evening on June 4 Japan at midnight on June 5 How much does Deltarune costs and where can you play it You can get the game on Steam for PC, on PS4 and PS5, and on both Nintendo Switch and Switch 2. The price is 24.99 US dollars (around ₹2,085) on all platforms. If you want the full soundtrack, it costs 14.99 US dollars more (around ₹1,250). The soundtrack includes over 150 songs, and new songs from future chapters will be added for free. Deltarune supports cross-buy. If you buy it on PS4, you can also play it on PS5. The same goes for Switch and Switch 2. You can also move your save file between these console families. For example, a save file from the Switch can be used on the Switch 2. You cannot share saves between Nintendo and PlayStation or between console and PC. What is Deltarune about? Deltarune is a pixel-style RPG made by Toby Fox. The story follows a teenager named Kris who teams up with Susie and Ralsei after falling into the Dark World. A prophecy says that three heroes must seal the Dark Fountains to stop the chaos between light and dark. That is your goal in the game. Combat is a mix of turn-based moves and real-time dodging. You can choose to fight, spare, act or use items. Each new area brings new puzzles and new enemies. You will need both smart moves and fast fingers to win.

Deltarune's next chapters will launch alongside the Switch 2

The paid release of Deltarune, Toby Fox's episodic Undertale spinoff, will be available for most people at the same time the Nintendo Switch 2 launches in Japan, Fox says in the Deltarune newsletter for May 2025. Deltarune's first two chapters, released in 2018 and 2021 respectively, were free, but this new release, which adds chapters 3 and 4, will be a paid version that costs $24.99. How the release timing will work is a little confusing, but let me explain. For PS4, PS5, Steam, and the original Switch, Deltarune will launch on June 5th at 12AM in Japan, which translates to June 4th at 11AM ET / 8AM PT for people in the US. The Nintendo Switch 2 version of Deltarune, on the other hand, will launch at midnight local time in most regions on June 5th. This decision actually means that people in New Zealand or Australia who get a Switch 2 at midnight have a slight head start. 'But, for convenience's sake, we're just going to ignore you guys and pretend that the game is not out… Meanwhile, don't say anything about it please,' Fox says.

Deltarune Chapters 3 and 4 expand Toby Fox's RPG universe with upcoming launch

Toby Fox's popular RPG Deltarune continues with the upcoming release of Chapters 3 and 4, which will be available on Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5 and PC. The new instalments will be released on 5 June 2025 and mark the next chapter in Fox's distinct storytelling journey, nearly four years after the launch of Chapter 2. Nintendo confirmed the new content as part of its Switch 2 launch lineup. The bundle will include all previously released chapters, allowing new players to experience the full story from the beginning. Deltarune follows the character Kris in a surreal, choice-driven world where gameplay blends turn-based combat with emotional storytelling and unpredictable humour. With Fox again handling both game design and music, fans can expect a continuation of the series' unique tone and visual style. The upcoming chapters will also be available on PlayStation and PC, ensuring a wide release for returning players regardless of platform. Chapters 3 and 4 are expected to advance the plot significantly, although specific story details remain under wraps. The addition of new content promises more character development, expanded environments and further evolution of the game's mechanics. Since its debut, Deltarune has built a dedicated audience through its storytelling and unconventional gameplay. The delay between chapters has only heightened anticipation, and the June release is set to be one of the year's major indie gaming events.

A live orchestra will perform Undertale's soundtrack in London to celebrate its 10th anniversary

Engadget has been testing and reviewing consumer tech since 2004. Our stories may include affiliate links; if you buy something through a link, we may earn a commission. Read more about how we evaluate products. We're coming up on the 10-year anniversary of Undertale's release, and to mark the occasion, a 25-piece orchestra will perform the game's soundtrack for a one-night-only concert at London's Eventim Apollo this summer. The event, dubbed The Determination Symphony, will be held on June 22, and tickets are on sale now. The Determination Symphony is described as 'a musical journey from your initial fall at Mount Ebott, leading you through Froggit Village, the Snowdin Forest, Temmie Village and so much more.' Attendees (who I'm deeply envious of) will be able to watch all of that on screen while the orchestra makes its way through arrangements of the soundtrack. It's hard to believe that Toby Fox's Undertale is already 10 years old, but its enduring popularity just speaks to the impact it's had on so many who have played it. We may not all get to experience the orchestral rendition, but at least we'll always have the original soundtrack.
