Kansas trooper's dashcam records airborne SUV on I-70. Why the driver wasn't hurt
Dashcam video caught footage of a crash on I-70 in Russell County, Kansas, and shows an SUV driving in the median before hitting what appears to be a bump, going airborne, and then landing on its hood. Kansas Highway Patrol trooper Tod Hileman posted the dashcam video online Tuesday of the April 17 crash that was recorded by another trooper. The trooper was pulling over to help another driver on the side of the interstate. The trooper then drives from the shoulder to the median and rushes to the side of the driver, the dashcam video shows. 'Thankfully the driver was not injured, thanks to his seatbelt and all of the other hidden safety features that newer vehicles are being engineered with,' Hileman said in the Facebook post. Other details about the crash were not immediately available. The KHP does not post details about non-injury accidents in its crash log.

Drivers being warned about blowing dust, blizzard conditions in Kansas
WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) — Drivers in Kansas are urged to exercise caution on Tuesday and Wednesday. The KSN Storm Track 3 Weather team is already tracking a blowing dust warning for Wichita, Wallace, Logan and Greeley counties. The team is also following winter weather tonight, including blizzard conditions for parts of northwest and northcentral Kansas. KSN Chief Meteorologist Lisa Teachman says, 'travel will be treacherous – if not impossible.' Kansas Highway Patrol Trooper Tod Hileman urges drivers to plan accordingly, especially this afternoon, with the potential for more blowing dust and blizzard conditions tonight. Last week, Hileman was among the ones who worked on a fatal pileup on Interstate 70 caused by a severe dust storm in Sherman County. Eight people were killed in the incident, and it closed the highway for over a day. The National Weather Service has compiled some tips for driving if you get caught driving in a dust storm. If dense dust is observed blowing across or approaching a roadway, pull your vehicle off the pavement as far as possible, stop, turn off the lights, set the emergency brake, and take your foot off the brake pedal to be sure the tail lights are not illuminated. Don't enter the dust storm area if you can avoid it. If you can't pull off the roadway, proceed at a speed suitable for visibility, turn on lights and sound the horn occasionally. Use the painted center line to help guide you. Look for a safe place to pull off the roadway. Never stop on the traveled portion of the roadway. In the past, motorists driving in dust storms have pulled off the roadway, leaving lights on. Vehicles approaching from the rear and using the advance car's lights as a guide have inadvertently left the roadway and, in some instances, collided with the parked vehicle. Make sure all of your lights are off when you park off the roadway. Check for current road conditions and dial *47 if you need from the Kansas Highway Patrol. For more Kansas news, click here. Tracking Kansas wind speeds amid crashes, poor visibility
WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) — The weather is causing problems for drivers on some Kansas roads, blowing a semitrailer over on Interstate 70 and causing poor visibility due to blowing dust. The KSN Storm Track 3 team is tracking the wind speeds. 'If you're driving through Trego County this morning, you're going to encounter blowing dust,' Trooper Tod Hileman, Kansas Highway Patrol, said. 'Slow down and turn your headlights on. KS law requires headlights if the visibility is less than 1,000 ft.' He shared a video of the blowing dust making it difficult to see very far in front of his patrol vehicle. A few minutes later, he announced that the semi had blown over on I-70 near Brewster. There was also a two-vehicle crash on Highway 50 in Kearny County. Officials said blowing dirt there made conditions hazardous. Snow, some rain, and high winds through Tuesday 'Please, if you don't have to be out today, then don't,' Kearny County Fire Rescue said. 'If you do have to be out, remember while driving through the blowing dust to keep going, turn your hazards on and watch your mirrors.' The Lane County Sheriff's Office posted a message saying that travel conditions are hazardous for high-profile vehicles. Morton County law enforcement is asking that people not go out unless absolutely necessary, because the wind 'can be extremely dangerous.' Tax agents seize two Kansas Mexican restaurants for failure to pay $200,000 Depending on where you are in Kansas, you may encounter blowing snow instead of blowing dust. The National Weather Service posted pictures of the snow in Goodland Tuesday morning.
