Tom Cruise is working on a long-awaited sequel to a 90's cult classic
As the Mission: Impossible franchise prepares to unleash the Final Reckoning of Tom Cruise's Ethan Hunt this week, the 62-year-old actor is already hard at work on his next few projects — and they include more revivals of beloved films.
There was never a doubt we'd get another Top Gun film after 2022's Top Gun: Maverick became such a massive sensation, but Cruise made some waves this week by admitting he's working on ideas for another long-awaited sequel to the cult racing classic Days Of Thunder.
The 1990 film about fictional NASCAR driver Cole Trickle was another collaboration between the Top Gun director-producer pairing of Tony Scott and Jerry Bruckheimer that saw Cruise swap fighter jets for stock cars. Notably, Cruise's enthusiasm for racing hasn't faded in the decades since.
'Yeah, we're thinking and talking about many different stories and what could we do and what's possible,' Cruise told Australia's Today per Deadline. 'It took me 35 years to figure out Top Gun: Maverick, so all of these things we're working on, we're discussing Days of Thunder and Top Gun: Maverick.'
The movie star has often been spotted at F1 races tried moonlighting as a member of an F1 crew himself. Cruise's personal friendship with Lewis Hamilton gave him access to the Mercedes garage for some races while Red Bull let him take a spin in their car back in 2011.
With Top Gun: Maverick director Joseph Kosinski set to release his big budget F1 film in June, it makes sense Cruise would give Cole Trickle another look. We'll be ready to pop a few cans of Mello Yello if and when Days Of Thunder 2 is officially filming.
