Police arrest armed robbery suspect hiding in attic of Greenfield home

A person found hiding in an attic in Greenfield has been arrested after a suspected armed robbery Friday, police say. A spokesperson for Massachusetts State Police said police went to the home after being told the suspect, who has not been identified, may be in the basement. The suspect was 'taken into custody without incident,' the spokesperson said. Greenfield Police Chief Todd Dodge told WWLP-TV that the suspect had barricaded themselves into the Elm Street home around 6 a.m. Friday. No other information was immediately available about the incident. Police investigating possible armed home invasion in Greenfield with suspect barricaded inside

GREENFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – Police in Greenfield are investigating a possible home invasion on Elm Street, with a suspect barricaded inside the home Friday morning. Greenfield Chief of Police Todd Dodge told 22News that a suspect has barricaded themselves in a home on Elm Street. Chief Dodge reports that this could possibly be an armed home invasion. The incident is currently active at this time. Suspect holds woman hostage at gunpoint in Holyoke apartment 22News will update this story as soon as more information becomes available. Suspect in Greenfield police pursuit life flighted to Baystate Medical Center

GREENFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – A West Springfield man involved in a police pursuit in Greenfield was taken to the hospital by a life flight for serious injuries after crashing a stolen vehicle. Greenfield Police Chief Todd Dodge told 22News, that on Wednesday officers were on the lookout for a black Chevy pickup that was reported stolen. That evening police observed the vehicle in the Dunkin parking lot on the Mohawk Trail with a flat tire. Dunkin was closed at the time and when the officer proceeded to the parking lot, the driver took off toward Main Street. Officers pursued the vehicle, which allegedly reached 55 miles per hour in a 25 MPH zone. The driver hit a bump out of a sidewalk at an intersection which caused the vehicle to become airborne. When it landed the driver kept going and officers stopped pursuing the vehicle. Power restored to most in Franklin County after storm Chief Dodge said officers observed the driver continue to head east on Main Street. The driver reached the High and Crescent Street intersection, they proceeded without stopping when it crashed into a white box truck. Crews worked to use the jaws of life to help the suspect who was trapped inside before taking a life flight to Baystate Medical Center in Springfield for serious injuries. The driver of the box truck was taken to Baystate Franklin Medical Center in Greenfield for hand injuries. The suspect was identified as 35-year-old Hector Luis Rivera-Santiago Jr. of West Springfield. He is being charged with the following: Marked lanes violation Failure to stop/yield Negligent operation of a motor vehicle Larceny of motor vehicle (subsequent offense) Operation of a motor vehicle without a license (subsequent offense) Failure to stop for police Speeding Assault and battery with motor vehicle Vandalism of property Days before this incident, the police received reports of open and gross lewdness at the Greenfield Skate Park on Chapman and Davis Streets. Upon arrival, two people were arrested which included Rivera-Santiago Jr. He was charged with open and gross lewdness and also had a warrant. The following night, officers were called at around 9 p.m. to Petty Plain Road for a report of an altercation between two men. There they found Rivera-Santiago Jr. who was taken to Baystate Franklin for his injuries. He refused treatment and walked away from the hospital. That is when the stolen vehicle was reported from in front of Blessed Sacrament Church.
