More Wembley heartbreak for Warrington Wolves

ONCE again, Warrington Wolves will leave Wembley heartbroken. For the second year in a row – and the fourth time in their last five visits – The Wire are beaten Challenge Cup finalists, with Hull KR this time besting them at the national stadium. Advertisement The way in which it came about, however, made it even more heartbreaking with Tom Davies' last-gasp try and Mikey Lewis' conversion snatching what was looking like a historic victory away from The Wire. Josh Thewlis' try on the stroke of half-time had given them the lead after Lewis stroked over the opening points via a penalty but despite controlling much of the second half, they could not convert into victory. In the end, the Super League leaders converted their status as overwhelming pre-match favourites into victory to end their own 40-year wait for a major trophy. For Warrington, they are again left wondering what might have been after skipper George Williams' earlier-than-expected return from ankle surgery failed to inspire them to victory.
