Russell Wilson focused on being a leader for the Giants even with all eyes on rookie Jaxson Dart
EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. (AP) — Russell Wilson knows he's not the future. Not at this point in his career. The New York Giants hope that'll be Jaxson Dart. For now, though, Wilson is the No. 1 quarterback on the depth chart — and he fully expects to remain there when the season starts. Still, all eyes during offseason practices are on Dart, the big-armed first-round draft pick from Mississippi. 'It doesn't change anything at all,' Wilson said of his approach after the Giants' sixth practice of organized team activities Thursday. 'I think the biggest thing is for me is just being my best every day, leading. I always think about just leading everybody, just leading every room, every moment, every time I get to step between the white lines and the opportunity of that.' New York signed the 36-year-old Wilson, who's entering his 14th season, in March to a one-year deal worth up to $21 million with $10.5 million guaranteed. The move gave the Giants a stopgap option at quarterback, teaming with Jameis Winston and holdover Tommy DeVito. But a month later, New York traded back into the first round of the draft and took Dart — giving the Giants a potential signal caller for the future. 'Jaxson's been great, man,' Wilson said while speaking to reporters for the first time since the draft. 'He's a great worker, great teammate. We're having fun, all of us. We have a really good quarterback room. Guys are so focused and working diligently every day. He's going to be an extremely, extremely good talent and everything else throughout his career.' For now, though, Dart is the student and Wilson very much the teacher. And the leader of the offense. 'I always share and I always think about communication,' Wilson said. 'I'm a big believer in communicating out loud, just, 'Here's what I'm thinking, here's what I'm saying.' You don't hold any information. I think that for us, it's always about us being the best that we can all be. 'And I think for me, when you have tremendous confidence in yourself, you have no problem sharing it with others. I think that's just how I've always believed.' Wilson, a 10-time Pro Bowl selection, helped Pittsburgh make the playoffs last season and threw for 2,482 yards with 16 touchdown passes and five interceptions and a 96.5 passer rating. But the Steelers lost five in a row at the end of the season, including in the wild-card playoffs against Baltimore. The Steelers allowed Wilson to become a free agent and he joined the Giants with a chance to help turn around a franchise that went through a 3-14 season with a revolving door at quarterback. 'It's been nice,' wide receiver Wan'Dale Robinson said. 'A guy that's been in this league a long time. He tells you exactly what he wants out there, running routes, and the spots he needs you to be in. So, it's been really, really nice.' Wilson might not be the dynamic playmaker he was while helping the Seahawks to a Super Bowl victory in 2014, but there's enough there to make the Giants optimistic about what he can do for them. 'I see a lot of things in Russ and things that I watched from afar for a long time — his time in Seattle, Denver, Pittsburgh, just the leadership, the command,' offensive coordinator Mike Kafka said. 'You see that on the field. I think the players are responding to it.' Wilson has also been trying to build chemistry with his new teammates, including throwing with several of them in the Atlanta area. Earlier this week, he gathered several of his offensive linemen, running backs and the other quarterbacks for a group dinner. 'We just had a good time, just tons of laughs and a good time together,' Wilson said. 'I think the fellowship of it all is the best part right now. Obviously, our work ethic and what we're doing in the field. But when it comes to just the tight-knit culture that we're continuing to build and continue to grow, and we want to have a championship football team, and in terms of our mentality and our approach and how we go about it. 'And it's not just the games, but it's everything that leads up to that. And that's the fun part about the game of football.' ___ AP NFL:

New York Giants to visit Saints in Week 5 of the 2025 season
New York Giants to visit Saints in Week 5 of the 2025 season We have yet another schedule leak, this time involving the New York Giants who are scheduled to travel to New Orleans in Week 5 of the 2025 season. Two teams that have made significant changes to their quarterback rooms. Looking back at the last time the team made the trip to New Orleans, the Saints ended up victorious in a mid-December matchup in 2023. A 24-6 blowout by New Orleans gave the team a chance for postseason play, as they climbed back to .500 on the season with a record of 7-7. Giants quarterback Tommy DeVito struggled mightily against the Saints defense as he was sacked 7 times during the game. The team also limited 2024 OPOY winner Saquon Barkley to 14 yards on 9 carries, not giving the Giants offense any breathing room all afternoon. Now-retired Saints quarterback Derek Carr had a stellar day, completing 23 of 28 passes for 218 yards and 3 touchdowns, including one to Saints legend Jimmy Graham who showed he can still get it done in the red zone. Running back Alvin Kamara also had an exceptional day, totaling over 100 yards from scrimmage against the Giants defense. This time around, both teams will look much different specifically in the quarterback room. The Giants have an entirely group of quarterbacks after signing Russell Wilson and former Saints Jameis Winston this offseason, while also trading back up in round one to select Jaxson Dart out of Ole Miss. Being that the match up is so early in the year, we can almost be certain that Wilson will be the starter at this point of the season with Dart taking a backseat to learn the ropes of the NFL. The Saints group will also look drastically different, as they come into the season with second round pick Tyler Shough and Spencer Rattler as their top two options at the position. By this time one of these two quarterbacks will have had four games under their belt, hopefully settling in once this game rolls around. Some interesting ties between the two teams stem from their respective coaching staffs. Saints running back coach Joel Thomas recently departed from New York this offseason after initially leaving New Orleans a few years back. Giants offensive coordinator Mike Kafka was also a contender for the Saints' head coaching job earlier this offseason, taking multiple interviews with the team before deciding on Kellen Moore. Aside from coaches, Saints fans will also get a look at cornerback Paulson Adebo for the first time in the red, white and blue. The Giants appear vastly improved, with a new quarterback and what could be one of the league's top defensive line units—an imposing front that could challenge the Saints early and often. A possible early test for this new regime.

Tommy DeVito on how he is approaching uphill climb to stick with Giants
So much has happened regarding the Giants' quarterback room since Tommy DeVito became the first QB under contract for 2025 in early March. The team signed two experienced signal callers later that month in Russell Wilson and Jameis Winston, before also moving up to draft Jaxson Dart late in the first round of the 2025 NFL Draft barely two weeks ago. Advertisement From the outside, those maneuverings leave DeVito — the New Jersey-bred fan favorite nicknamed 'Tommy Cutlets' who started eight games over the previous two seasons — as the presumptive No. 4 quarterback when training camp opens in July. 'It's the same mindset I've always had as an undrafted free agent, the same mindset regardless of the other guys [that were brought in],' DeVito told The Post on Friday at an appearance at a PAL camp in the Bronx, in his first public comments since the additions were made.

23 Actors People Thought Were "Too Old" For The Part, But Nobody Ended Up Caring Because They Killllllllllled It
Recently, Reddit user sKullsHavezzz asked the question, "Which actor was too old for the part but nobody cared because they were so awesome?" The good people of r/moviecritic swiftly responded with some A+++ answers. Here's what they thought: 1. Joe Pesci in Goodfellas (1990) — Age: 46, Playing a 17-year-old through to a 28-year-old "Other than being much older than his character Tommy DeSimone ("Tommy DeVito" in the movie) was in real life, the real Tommy was also a hulk of a guy, like 6'4", 250lbs. Pesci had to come up with an amazing performance to make himself as menacing and terrifying as he could. He nailed it, too. He's scary as fuck in this movie." — doctor-rumack Joe Pesci won an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor in 1991 for his role as Tommy DeVito in Goodfellas. His acceptance speech was famously short with only five words: "It's my privilege. Thank you.". 2. Joe Pesci in My Cousin Vinny (1992) — Age: 48, Playing a 35-year-old "Marisa was 28, and he was 49 (probably 48 while filming), but throw on a hairpiece, and he looks like a cute person in his thirties. We never find out how old Vinny actually is, but based on his background in the movie, he would be around 35 to 40 years old." — RyzenRaider 3. Shirley Henderson in Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets (2002) — Age: 37, Playing a 14-year-old Warner Bros. "She played Moaning Myrtle, a teenage ghost who haunted the bathroom in the Harry Potter films when she was almost 40 years old." — Anaisli 4. Alan Rickman in Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone (2001) — Age: 54, Playing a 31-year-old "Alan Rickman was more than 20 years older than Snape should've been." — Enge712 5. Robin Williams in Patch Adams (1998) — Age: 47, Playing a 24-year-old 6. Emma Thompson in Sense and Sensibility (1995) — Age: 36, Playing a 19-year-old "She wrote the script and did so beautifully as Elinor. There could have been no one else, but she was 17 years older than her character." — AllynWA1 7. Stockard Channing in Grease (1978) — Age: 33, Playing a 17- or 18-year-old "Yeah literally everyone in G rease. Alan Ruck in Ferris Bueller's Day Off (1986) — Age: 29, Playing a 17- or 18-year-old "Ruck being older probably helped in his performance. You don't get that dead inside look without life beating it out of you at some point." — Decantus In case you're wondering, Matthew Broderick (Ferris) was 23, Mia Sara (Sloane) was 18, Jennifer Grey (Jeanie) was 25, and Jeffrey Jones (Principal Rooney) was 39. 9. He would have been nearly 40 if he got drafted into WWII and was older than the General in real life…yet they treated the General like a father figure to him and Danny Kaye. LoL" — CosmicOutfield In case you're wondering, Danny Kaye (Phil Davis) was 43 years old, Rosemary Clooney (Betty Haynes) was 26 years old, and Vera-Ellen (Judy Haynes) was 33 years old. 11. Good god." — heardThereWasFood 12. James Spader in Pretty in Pink (1986) — Age: 25, Playing a 17- to 18-year-old "He looks 30, and he's playing as a high school senior. And finally, Cary Grant (again!!) in Father Goose (1964) — Age: 59 Courtesy Everett Collection "He was almost 60 and romancing Leslie Caron, who was 33. It's still a great film and it works, but it was the last time Cary Grant played the romantic lead. He only made one more movie, Walk, Don't Run before retiring." — CalagaxT What do you think? Do you agree that these actors crushed their roles despite being "too old?" Are there other actors you think fall into the same category? Tell us in the comments below!
