Diamondbacks ace Corbin Burnes (elbow) lands on IL

June 3 - The Arizona Diamondbacks placed ace Corbin Burnes on the 15-day injured list on Tuesday with right elbow inflammation. The move is retroactive to Monday for Burnes, who left Sunday's start against Washington in the fifth inning. Burnes allowed a run on four hits in 4 2/3 innings against the Nationals before experiencing discomfort and gesturing for help. The former Cy Young Award winner is 3-2 with a 2.66 ERA through 11 starts during his first season with Arizona. The Diamondbacks signed Burnes, 30, to a six-year, $210 million contract in free agency in December. The four-time All-Star is 63-38 with a 3.15 ERA in 210 career games (149 starts) with the Milwaukee Brewers (2018-23), Baltimore Orioles (2024) and Diamondbacks. Arizona recalled left-hander Tommy Henry from Triple-A Reno in a corresponding move. Henry, 27, appeared in one game for the Diamondbacks on May 5 and allowed one hit in 2 2/3 scoreless innings against the New York Mets. --Field Level Media

Diamondbacks put RHP Corbin Burnes on 15-day IL with right elbow inflammation

ATLANTA (AP) — Arizona Diamondbacks ace Corbin Burnes has been put on the 15-day injured list with right elbow inflammation, two days after leaving a start early against the Washington Nationals. Arizona led 3-0 in the top of the fifth inning when Burnes allowed a single by CJ Abrams with two outs. The right-hander then gestured toward the dugout with his glove and yelled in frustration. Burnes allowed a run and four hits in 4 2/3 innings, with a walk and six strikeouts. He is 3-2 with a 2.66 ERA in 11 starts this season. Arizona signed Burnes to a $210 million, six-year contract before the season, and the 30-year-old has been very durable over the past several years. He's made at least 28 starts in every season since he won the 2021 National League Cy Young Award for the Milwaukee Brewers. The D-backs called up left-hander Tommy Henry to take Burnes' spot on the roster. He's pitched in one game this season, throwing 2 2/3 scoreless innings. ___ AP MLB:

Newington Elementary dedicates new playground equipment to beloved former teacher Tommy Henry

DORCHESTER COUNTY, S.C. (WCBD) – A school in Dorchester County is expanding its playground in honor of a beloved teacher who died amid a battle with cancer. Tommy Henry was a special education teacher at Newington Elementary School and the leader of a mentoring club for boys at the school. He was also the recipient of the News 2 Cool Teacher award and was highlighted as a News 2 Everyday Hero. To honor his legacy, the school held a groundbreaking ceremony Monday morning for the Phyzics Cresent Moon climbing set, which will be dedicated in Henry's honor. School and district leaders, students, and members of Henry's family gathered for the special event. Newington Elementary Principal Rachel Cubbage said the community raised $25,000 for the new playground equipment in just a few months. Cubbage said the space will offer new ways for students to engage in active play, which she called a fitting tribute to honor a teacher who gave so much to his students and community. The playground equipment is expected to be delivered next week and will be in place by the first week of May. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved.
