Rangers: Rare 1972 European shirt to be auctioned next month
The match-worn Tommy McLean shirt from the victory over Dynamo Moscow is expected to fetch between £15,000 and £20,000 at the Graham Budd Auctions on May 21. The 1972 victory was Rangers' first European Cup Winners Cup final win after defeats in 1961 and 1967. The "Barca Bears" defeated Rennes, Sporting Club, Torino, and Bayern Munich to reach the final. Then, in front of 35,000 spectators at the Nou Camp on May 24, 1972, Rangers defeated Dynamo Moscow 3-2 with goals from Willie Johnstone and Colin Stein. The Rangers team of 1972 subsequently became known as the "Barca Bears" and are revered in the club's history for their European success. The shirt is therefore considered a significant piece of memorabilia for collectors and Rangers fans alike. The auction will take place on Wednesday, May 21, giving fans a chance to own a piece of history.
