Guiding the next generation: Texas Rangers' Beasley reflects on 36 Years in Baseball and his passion for mentorship

SURPRISE, Ariz. (KFDX/KJTL) — The Texas Rangers Third Base Coach, Tony Beasley, is entering his 36th year of professional baseball this season. It's his 11th as a coach with the Rangers. Nexstar's Tobin McDuff sat down with him during Spring Training in Surprise, Ariz. Below are a few questions from the interview: Tobin McDuff: How rewarding is it to lead young men, even, we see them as icons and people, but you see them as young men. What is it like to guide them? Tony Beasley: You know, I love it. It's an awesome responsibility because you're not just leading them as an athlete, you're leading them as men and as individuals as well. You try to just pour into their lives and make sure that they're productive citizens, whether they make it to the major leagues or not. I always love to take a group of individuals from all parts of the world. We got guys from not just [the] United States, [but also the] Dominican Republic, Venezuela. I have some kids from Panama. You have Asians, you have everybody playing the game of baseball. I think it says something about leadership when you can pull a group together with guys with such different values and cultures and beliefs and all things, but you can get them to work in a common goal. I enjoy that. Tobin McDuff: We have to do this, too, because this is part of your story. We've caught you on the backfields, all alone out there, getting ready for the day, and you're out there singing. We've heard you sing the National Anthem at the ballpark, if you were on The Voice and you had to get Michael Buble or John Legend to turn around, what song would you sing on stage? Tony Beasley: Probably one of John Legend's songs. I like his music because it's mellow music and things of that nature. So I'd probably sing one of his songs in it. And I would assume that if I sung it correctly, he would have to turn around. He would have to turn around. The full interview with Beasley will air on KFDX on March 22 at 11:30 a.m., KJTL March 27 at 9:30 p.m. and KJBO on March 26 at 9 p.m. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved.
