Beautification project underway in downtown Joplin
JOPLIN, Mo. — New things are blooming in downtown Joplin this spring.
One of those things, new landscaping at Joplin City Hall. The senior management team chose the beautification project as its team-building exercise.
The team paid for all the materials including plants and landscape fabric out of their own pockets, while Missouri American Water donated a water meter and the hookup to maintain the garden beds.
Planning started in early spring, and the project came together in a few hours this morning.
'We're hoping that, you know, once we've beautified this little piece, this section of downtown, that maybe others look at it and say, 'Gosh, I'd really like to do something like that in our business.' Or across the street, or in some planters outside of our office. So maybe set an example,' said Tony Robyn, assistant city manager.
Robyn says the team chose native Missouri plants that will support local honeybees, butterflies, and hummingbirds.
