F1 film director teases Top Gun 3 as Tom Cruise returns for ‘one last ride' as Maverick

While promoting his new Formula One film starring Brad Pitt, Kosinski confirmed that Top Gun 3 is now in development. Speaking to GQ, he said the next film is going to be bigger in scale and deeper in story. 'We have found a way to do it,' Kosinski said. 'Not just in what we show on screen, but in the story itself. We are thinking much bigger.' One last ride for the Maverick Tom Cruise is not finished with Top Gun. Kosinski confirmed there is still more to explore with Maverick. 'There is one last ride. We are working on it now,' he said. The new movie will look at Maverick's personal side and focus on a question that shakes him deeply. He did not share plot details but said it will not just be about fast jets and action. 'It is a question that would make Maverick feel small. That is the core of the new story.' Possible Tom Cruise and Brad Pitt reunion? Kosinski also gave fans something fun to think about. He said it would be exciting to unite Cruise and Pitt on screen again. He mentioned Cruise's Days of Thunder character Cole Trickle and Pitt's new F1 character Sonny Hayes. 'They could have been rivals. Maybe they crossed paths once,' he smiled. The director joked about an old rumour that Cruise and Pitt raced go-karts during the Interview with the Vampire shoot. He ended with a grin, 'Who would not want to see them race on screen?' Kosinski is working on the script with Ehren Kruger, who also wrote the F1 film. The new Top Gun sequel does not have a release date yet.
