Allie Torto hosts Virtual Voices Live

(WIVT/WBGH) – Allie Torto is helping other singers make a name for themselves in the community as she hosts a karaoke-style singing event. Torto is presenting Virtual Voices Live on Saturday at New Leaf Cider Co. in Port Crane. Torto hosts Virtual Voices, an annual online singing competition, where participants have the opportunity to duet with her on Facebook. Whoever receives the most likes wins not only the competition but also the chance to record their duet professionally with Torto. Previous winners Jaime Pittsley, Ryan Wilson, and Gabriella Bernadini will open the show. Contestants from the past three years of the competition will then be invited to perform. Torto says helping other musicians succeed is therapeutic because it reminds her of her own humble beginnings. She says she wants to be able to support people who are in situations like she was by giving them access to performing. 'I had a really hard time finding that exposure for myself when I first started singing. I didn't really have a planted-out path forward, and I didn't have a lot of people who were singers directly doing a lot of the stuff that I'm doing now and all of the things that I've learned. I kind of had to figure it out mostly for myself,' said Torto. Virtual Voices Live begins at 5:30. It is kid-friendly and open to all who wish to attend. Admission is free. Allie Torto helping singers share their talents with virtual competition

BINGHAMTON, N.Y. (WIVT/WBGH) – A beloved Binghamton singer and songwriter is giving other performers a chance to share their talents with the community. Allie Torto just wrapped up the 3rd Annual Virtual Voices competition. Virtual Voices is an online singing competition where local singers have the chance to duet with Torto. The winner is chosen by the public through likes and shares on Facebook. This year, 40 people entered the competition. Torto, a lifelong musician, is incredibly well known around the local area. She says she started the competition as a way to give people a platform to sing, share their story, and make connections with the community. 'There is definitely an inner part of me that kind of looks back at younger Allie and want to heal parts of that, the parts of me that were afraid to sing and do things and move forward and listen to my thoughts and my heart, listen to my heart and move forward with music. When I see other people having the opportunity to do that through me, it helps me,' said Torto. The winner of this year's Virtual Voices competition was Binghamton native Jaime Pittsley. She sang the song Stone Cold by Demi Lovato. Pittsley had the opportunity to join Torto at On Point Productions in Binghamton to professionally record the song as well as a behind the scenes music video. Pittsley says since the competition, more people have been checking out her music. She says the competition is a good way for people to gain confidence. 'Anybody can do it. It doesn't matter how long you've been singing, it doesn't matter at all. You can just do it and get your voice heard. I think that's important,' said Pittsley. Torto says Pittsley has a really deep soul that many people can connect with. You can watch their duet of Stone Cold on YouTube. Torto is also hosting a live Virtual Voices concert featuring all of the contestants on May 17 at New Leaf Cider in Port Crane.
