Tower Top Tyre Inflator review: simple to use and quick to get you back on road

Some service stations have really poor quality air machines for tyre inflation. Error messages are common as are incidents when the five minutes you paid for run out before you have pumped up all four tyres. My days of using these machines every few weeks or before long journeys are gone for good thanks to the TowerTop Air Compressor Tyre Inflator, a compact and portable device that delivers precision and speed. I've been testing it out for a few weeks now and here are my thoughts.. The lightweight but robustly made device connects to your 12V auxiliary power outlet and comes with a lengthy inflation cable - made from braided steel - that reaches all four tyres with ease. It has a built-in torch for use in the dark and comes with a handy carrying case and valves for use with bicycles, toys and beach balls. The connection to your tyre is securely fitted, unlike the cables and connections you encounter on most service station air machines. Plug the TowerTop Tyre Inflator in and you'll instantly hear an internal fan running but it's not too loud during operation. The machine has a quick release valve connector that speeds things up and fits to your tyres securely. Once you are connected, setting the tyre pressure is a simple process. You just adjust the dial to the desired PSI for your car and press the power button. The speed is impressive. You can inflate a flat tyre to 35PSI in less than three minutes. The TowerTop slightly over-inflates the tyre to allow for the pressure you will lose when disconnecting. This is a clever feature as is the automatic cut-off once you reach your chosen PSI target. I was hugely impressed by the reliability, consistency and speed of TowerTop Tyre Inflator. I pumped up all four tyres without any hitches in far less time than the five minutes you get at a service station. TowerTop Tyre Inflator costs €49.99 at Amazon.

Tech review: TowerTop Air Compressor Tyre Inflator provides a fast solution to flat tyres

It wasn't that long ago that I was still using a foot pump to inflate my car tyres outside my house. You know, the little metal ones on the wonky frame with the round cylinder in the middle. It felt like a workout rather than a quick task to inflate a tyre. That led me to changing to a cheap and cheerful £10 electric inflator from a well-known car motoring related shop. Now, it did the job, but in all honesty it was like the dad on the beach huffing and puffing his way to inflating a dinghy with his mouth. It got there eventually, but it felt like a real effort, and the dial on the front never worked, so I was largely just guessing how much pressure I was putting in. That's why I was looking forward to trying out the TowerTop Air Compressor Tyre Inflator, a device that promises speed, precision, and durability. This device comes neatly packaged with its own carry bag and inside is the main unit, but also the necessary different valves depending on what you are inflating, there are six in total. These allow beach toys, bike tyres, balls, and other things to be inflated. For the purposes of this review, I stuck with the tyre valve. On unpacking the machine, the build quality is evident to see with a sturdy plastic casing, and a rubberised grip system on the bottom. It looks robust, and it feels robust. Going back to my £10 'friend', that was made of a really cheap plastic that never felt like it could withstand much. This is a good, strong bit of kit, and I really liked the no-frills simplicity of it. Setting the tyre pressure is easy, you just adjust the dial and press the power button. I didn't need full inflation of my tyres, just a top up. One tyre was a bit flatter than the others and needed about a third of the pressure put back in, even that one was done in well under a minute. It also slightly over inflates the psi that you enter to allow for the pressure lost when disconnecting, a nice touch. I found the machine to be a lot quieter than the last one, which is handy in the morning and late at night. The efficiency is the key, though, and this really is a quick, easy-to-use, solid product. There's a lot of technical jargon I could throw in, for example it can run for thirty minutes and has an in-built copper cooling system. It claims it will inflate a flat tyre in two and a half minutes; on this evidence, that seems pretty believable. It also has a neat cut-off switch when you get to your chosen psi level. It comes with a really long power cord that allows you to be able to do front and back tyres with ease. Other things to mention are the torch that is also incorporated, a very useful addition. With the speed it takes and the efficiency it offers, my days of battling with a cheaper device, are over. I also won't be going to a garage anytime soon and queuing up to swipe my bank card to pay for air. Content, and impressed, I packed it back up into the compact carry case, and whacked it in the boot. The TowerTop Air Compressor Tyre Inflator is available for £41.99 via Amazon. What users say "Best 12v pump I've ever had there are cheaper ones if you don't mind waiting all day to inflate your tyre yes I'd recommend." "Very good and works well. Only problem is the connector to the valve, very hard to take off without losing a lot of air. I order a short extinction for it and now work well."
