Today it was confirmed that the ride has officially been shut to the public. A spokesperson for Alton Towers told local media: "As we continually look to refresh and enhance our guest offer, Postman Pat Parcel Post ride will be closing in preparation for future development work at the resort. "Our website has been updated, notifying guests of the planned closure." The ride will be replaced by a kids rollercoaster, under the name code-name Project Sunshine. It hasn't been confirmed what it could be based on, but it is rumoured to be one based on the TV show Bluey. It comes after Bluey-themed hotel rooms opened at Alton Towers' hotel. Easter holidays in Birmingham - days out, new attractions and things to do
There are lots of fun events taking place across Birmingham and the whole of the West Midlands over the Easter holidays. Burst pipe leaking brown liquid closes toxic waste-themed ride on Alton Towers debut
A new ride at Alton Towers was forced to temporarily close on its opening day after a burst pipe caused brown liquid to leak out near the queue entrance. Toxicator, a highly anticipated toxic waste-themed ride, drew snaking queues of thrill seekers on Saturday afternoon (15 March). Frustrated visitors claimed on social media that Alton Towers' Forbidden Valley was evacuated on its reopening day after a drain started 'leaking sewage'. The Staffordshire theme park said that the new ride had a 'brief pause in operation' after a burst pipe in an area near the ride entrance, which was 'unrelated to the ride itself'. An Alton Towers spokesperson said: 'Due to an unexpected burst pipe near the ride, Toxicator briefly paused operation whilst our teams swiftly dealt with the issue. The ride and surrounding area are now fully re-open and welcoming guests." Been here 7 hours been on 4 rides. Been forced to stand in human toilet waste in queue of Toxicator after 70 minute wait for then ride to close. Currently 4 rides open. This is a disgrace. What compensation do we get for this!!!' Another added: 'Something has gone very wrong with toxicator, we've been booted out of the queue with no fastpass.' The toxic waste-themed ride in the park's Forbidden Valley promises riders will 'hang in suspense and feel the powerful forces at play, spinning you into a whirlwind of excitement and fear'. At a record-breaking 78ft tall, Toxicator can accommodate more than 500 people per hour and is the only top spin ride in the world elevated above ground level. Video footage shows brown liquid flooding the ride's entrance from an overflowing drain. One X user joked: 'Toxicator. Sewage leak. There's a certain irony about that.' Some were quick to praise the park for quickly reopening the ride. Riders of Toxicator will be seated back-to-back before being flipped round and held face down above a 'bubbling pool of highly toxic alien acid'. The latest instalment in the Nemesis story is themed around the newest technology from the shadowy organisation as they try to extract and separate toxic saliva from the Nemesis creature.

Alton Towers' latest attraction, Toxicator, was forced to close on its opening day after a burst pipe caused a leak of brown liquid. Visitors at the Staffordshire theme park expressed frustration at the ride's closure, with one calling it a 'nightmare day' that left his son 'so disappointed'. Customers claimed a 'brown liquid' was leaking near the entrance of the ride on Saturday. Alton Towers denied reports it was sewage and insisted it was a nearby burst pipe. A spokesperson for Alton Towers said the incident was 'unrelated to the new ride' and confirmed that operations were suspended for about two hours. 'Fully reopen' 'Due to an unexpected burst pipe near the ride, Toxicator briefly paused operation whilst our teams swiftly dealt with the issue. 'The ride and surrounding area are now fully reopen and welcoming guests,' a statement said. Ben Keable, from Cheslyn Hay, Staffordshire, was visiting the park with his son when the ride shut on Saturday. He told the PA news agency: 'We had been queuing for about 70 minutes and were about one or two cycles away from getting on. 'We were standing under the ride waiting when a steady trickle of water started flowing by our feet. We thought it was water from the ride above as water was dripping from the fountains on the ride. 'The steady flow became more of a puddle around our feet. There was an announcement that the ride was suffering a problem. We were then told to leave the ride with no offer to come back with a fast pass given we had waited 70 minutes. 'This was just a small part of a nightmare day at the park. My son was so disappointed.' Long queues Mr Keable said a number of rides were closed throughout the day, meaning they only managed five rides in 10 hours due to long queues. Matthew Lancaster, 27, from Southport, Merseyside, was also visiting the park when the pipe burst. He said: 'I'm an avid theme park goer and it was very unfortunate what happened. That definitely wasn't on the bucket list.' The new ride, initially dubbed Project Ocean, stands at 78ft tall and is the only top spin ride in the world to be elevated above ground level. Asked about suggestions the ride was also closed for a period on Sunday, Alton Towers said it was open and fully operational, with a 50-minute queue time.
