Cops hunt Toyota Harrier driver after viral Penang high-speed chase with patrol car
NIBONG TEBAL: Police have launched an investigation to locate the driver of a Toyota Harrier caught on video recklessly fleeing from a patrol vehicle in a high-speed chase that has since gone viral on social media. The 18-second dashcam video shows the sports utility vehicle dangerously weaving through traffic at the Jalan Paboi-Bukit Tambun intersection around 11.15am on Friday, in an attempt to evade police pursuit. Seberang Prai Selatan district police chief Superintendent Jay January Siowou confirmed that a police report has been lodged. He said investigations are underway under Section 186 of the Penal Code for obstructing a public servant in the discharge of duties, and Section 279 for reckless driving. "The suspect's actions not only endangered themselves but also other road users. "We are actively working to locate the driver involved," he said. The incident has sparked public concern and debate online after the video, recorded via a dashboard camera, was widely shared on social media platforms. Police have urged members of the public who witnessed the chase or have any relevant information to contact investigating officer Inspector Tuan Noremifarahana Tuan Roslan at 019-8442162. They also assured that firm action would be taken against those who threaten road safety and attempt to evade law enforcement.

Elderly taxi driver dies after accident with SUV in Temerloh
TEMERLOH: A 72-year-old taxi driver died while receiving treatment at the Sultan Haji Ahmad Shah Hospital here yesterday following a crash with another vehicle in Jalan Kuala Lumpur-Kuantan, Lanchang, near here, yesterday. District police chief Assistant Commissioner Mazlan Hassan said the victim was believed to be travelling home in his Nissan car from Mentakab when he was involved in the 1.55pm crash near Kampung Punjong. "Initial investigations revealed an oncoming Toyota Harrier sports utility vehicle is believed to have veered into the taxi's lane. The 67-year-old Toyota driver sustained injuries. "Both the drivers were taken to HOSHAS for treatment. The taxi driver died while receiving treatment at 3.30pm while the Toyota driver is still warded," he said in a statement today.
