Brits have been chopping peppers wrong and the correct way only takes seconds
A TikToker just humbled all UK households by revealing the best, most convenient and quickest way to cut a bell pepper, and it doesn't take more than five seconds. Whether they're red, green or yellow, bell peppers are a must-have in the kitchen as they work for a variety of dishes. But, it seems you've been cutting it wrong this entire time, and this genius hack will make it so much easier. Peppers are widely available in all UK supermarkets and local stores and they're known for their sweet flavour and for being a good source of vitamins and minerals. Interestingly, the UK imports their pepper from Vietnam, followed by India, France, Spain and China. When it comes to cutting fruits and vegetables, every cook has its way to do so. However, peppers tend to take a little longer because of their amount of seeds. But don't worry, there's a solution for everything, and it won't take you more than five seconds. The best way to cut a bell pepper According to a TikToker, you'll spend less time cutting peppers using this life-changing trick. The content creator, whose name is Trace Alexander, posted a video showing six simple food hacks, including strawberries, spinach, chia seeds, and, of course, peppers. Gathering thousands of views, likes and comments, Trace is known for sharing kitchen life-hacks, recipes and viral trends. With a current 2.4 million following on his TikTok, he's also accumulated 136.9 million likes throughout his videos. In the short clip, Trace takes a freshly vibrant red pepper and puts it on the chopping board. He then cuts off the bottom and the top, effortlessly slicing the side and cleaning up the guts. He then places the seedless pepper on the board and begins to cut it horizontally leaving him with a fair amount. As per his genius cutting method, he said: 'I would recommend though to keep rolling the pepper down and then chop away.' How long do bell peppers last in the fridge? If you've got any leftovers, you can store bell peppers in the fridge. According to Eating Well, they can last up to five days when stored properly. Freshly store-bought peppers can last up to one to two weeks in the crisper drawer and not in other areas, as the crisper drawer is the warmest area of the fridge. However, don't wash them before storing them, as it can lead to faster spoilage. By following this simple trick, you'll be spending less time cutting peppers by avoiding the load of the intense amount of seeds getting stuck on the vegetable.

Porridge tastes so much better when one step is taken before cooking it
Porridge is a staple breakfast for millions of people across the UK. Now, one person has shared their tip to make it taste even better A home cook has revealed a simple trick to make porridge taste better and improve its texture - a quick step to take before cooking. Porridge is a classic British breakfast favourite, loved for being easy to prepare and it doesn't cost much. While many people add ingredients to enhance the flavour, this one simple step can make a big difference in both taste and texture. TikTok user Trace Alexander shared his porridge tip with his followers and shows the one easy step he uses to upgrade the popular dish, the Express reports. In his viral video he explains that oatmeal, the American name for porridge, can "taste a lot better than you think." He continues: "Over the years, I've had countless people say oatmeal tastes nasty. Fair enough, if you don't know how to make it right." Alexander, who claims himself to be the "oatmeal guy", shared his simple porridge recipe and he does something very important before he heats it up. He shared that it is important to soak your oats for a few minutes before you start to cook them. He adds his oats into a bowl followed by water and lets it sit for five minutes "to allow the liquid to absorb before cooking". He explains: "This way, the oats are already softened up." "The type of oats can also change the texture. For a more mushy texture I'd go for instant or quick cooking oats," he added. While many Brits choose to make their porridge with milk - whether cooking it on the stove or in the microwave - there are also plenty of people who prefer to use water instead. Interestingly, one expert who was crowned the World Porridge Champion in 2023, swears by a similar approach: he cooks his porridge using just water and a pinch of salt, then finishes it off by topping it with butter and brown sugar for added sweetness. However, Alexander's method is versatile and can be easily adapted if you prefer to use milk instead of water. The TikTok user received thousands of comments under his video with many people sharing their thoughts on his method for making his porridge. One person wrote: "Why is bro using water and not milk?" Another commented, giving their recipe of how they cook the breakfast staple: "I do 1 cup oats, 1 cup milk, 1 cup water. Combine in a pan on a stove and heat on medium high while stirring it constantly. When it starts to bubble or you get the consistency you wish, take off heat." A third was not impressed with the use of the microwave, as they penned: "Use a pan over the stove. Microwave just feels wrong."
