Coca-Cola 600 results: Ross Chastain wins NASCAR's longest race Show Caption Hide Caption Dale Earnhardt Jr.: Prime Video NASCAR coverage will provide new ways to cover the sport Starting on May 25th, Prime Video will have exclusive coverage of 5 NASCAR Cup series events. Dale Earnhardt Jr will be in the broadcast booth and reveals what to expect from their coverage. Ross Chastain ran down William Byron over the final 37 laps to capture the NASCAR Cup Series' longest race, Sunday night's Coca-Cola 600 at Charlotte Motor Speedway in Charlotte, North Carolina. After fending off a battle with Denny Hamlin, Byron withstood a charge from Chastain until the No. 1 Trackhouse Racing Chevrolet suddenly closed a three-tenth's gap and got by with six laps to go to beat Byron by 0.673 seconds for his first win this season in the 66th running of the event. The Alva, Florida, native started last at the 1.5-mile speedway after going to a backup car following a wreck in practice Saturday. He led just eight laps in his sixth career win, while Byron managed a race- and career-high 283. Polesitter Chase Briscoe, AJ Allmendinger and Brad Keselowski completed the top five. In attempting "The Double," Kyle Larson struggled to a 37th-place finish after wrecking out at the midway point of the Indianapolis 500 earlier in the day. He finished 27th in that race. Larson passed Briscoe on Lap 9 but fought with his car and soon tagged the wall hard. The 2021 Cup champ then spun by himself off Turn 4 on Lap 42, forcing him to pit road for a long stop. Running ninth with three circuits left in Stage 1, Alex Bowman's No. 48 banged the wall off Turn 4 and slid through the frontstretch grass. Byron won the second segment during the second caution period, while Tyler Reddick and Christopher Bell trailed him. Byron held an 8½-second lead as Stage 2 neared its end. The two-time Daytona 500 champ then eased to the segment win over Hamlin and Reddick with Carson Hocevar continuing his strong run in fourth. The 400-lap race's biggest melee was on Lap 246 after a restart. Daniel Suarez, Ryan Blaney and Briscoe made contact, and Larson and Justin Haley were involved in the sixth caution on the frontstretch. Hamlin led 34 laps in Stage 3, but Byron worked his way past the No. 11 Toyota in the closing circuits to sweep the first three stages and pocket the maximum bonus points. Restarting second on Lap 308, Hocevar had the engine on his No. 77 Spire Motorsports ride expire, triggering the eighth caution. Coca-Cola 600 full results

Shane van Gisbergen earns pole position for NASCAR All-Star Open

Qualifying on All-Star Race weekend is unique within NASCAR. Drivers will complete a full lap at speed before diving onto pit road for a four-tire pit stop in the middle of the second lap. At the end of that lap, the entire time it took from start to finish of the run is each driver's qualifying time — and yes, there are penalties for things such as loose wheels and speeding in the pit lane. The first drivers on track were the 18 selected for the All-Star Open, which is the race to make the main event. The top-two finishers will advance into the All-Star Race with a third joining them as the Fan Vote recipient. Advertisement Well, one of the drivers currently ranked in the top five for the Fan Vote -- Shane van Gisbergen -- went out and put his No. 88 Trackhouse Racing Chevrolet on pole position. SVG appeared to gain most of his time while braking into the pit lane, but having a fast pit crew helped as well. "Yeah, I think we finally got all the things right," said van Gisbergen, who had never even seen this track before today. "Qualifying has been a weakness. My lap was pretty good, coming in was good, pit stop guys were insane so really good for them. Thanks to WeatherTech, thanks to the Trackhouse pit crew, and we're up front for tomorrow. "I've never started at the front for an oval so I don't know what to do there. I have to learn the rules and see how we go." In the Cup Series, the New Zealander's best start on an oval is 17th, which came at Talladega Superspeedway last year. He will be joined on the front row by Spire Motorsports' Carson Hocevar, who is also one of the top five drivers in the Fan Vote right now. Advertisement Noah Gragson qualified third, Michael McDowell fourth, and Ryan Preece fifth. Zane Smith, Justin Haley, John Hunter Nemechek, Ty Gibbs, and Ty Dillon filled out the remainder of the top ten. Read Also: B.J. Ross Chastain chasing boosts in speed, confidence at Kansas

While recent results have been encouraging, Ross Chastain finds himself still searching for speed in his No. 1 Trackhouse Racing Chevrolet nearly one-third of the way through the NASCAR Cup Series season. Winless through 11 races, the 32-year-old Chastain will set out this weekend to defend his race win from last September at Kansas Speedway, the site of Sunday's AdventHealth 400 in Kansas City, Kan. Over the past six races at Kansas dating back to 2022, Chastain grids as the fourth-most productive driver, trailing leader Denny Hamlin, Kyle Larson and Alex Bowman. The Alva, Fla., native has an average finish of 8.7 with a win, two top fives, and four top 10s. He has led 6.4 percent of the laps around the 1.5-mile speedway. In last season's only triumph, he cleared Martin Truex Jr. on a late restart and held off William Byron for his fifth career win, spoiling the postseason opener as a championship non-qualifier going to Victory Lane. Ross Chastain walks onstage in Fort Worth, Texas. AFP According to Chastain, his weekends this season have started out poorly in practice and qualifying, with the No. 1 car behind before the green flag flies. The end result has been a 23.5 average starting position including three straight of 31st or worse, which he said has affected the confidence level for himself and Trackhouse teammates Daniel Suarez and Shane van Gisbergen. "Just the speed of (our) cars on Saturdays is just terrible," Chastain said after his season-best runner-up finish at Texas Motor Speedway last Sunday. "We're just not confident, all three drivers. So there was one pit stop today that (crew chief Phil Surgen) and the group. ... They made me a confident driver all of a sudden with one adjustment." After 11 races, Chastain ranks 11th in points, slotting 281 behind Byron, who leads in his Hendrick Motorsports No. 24. He currently has posted two top fives and six top 10s with one DNF and no stage wins in 2025. On Tuesday, an important day for NASCAR to clean up its issues and get stuff done, the sanctioning body finalized what everyone had been hearing: Homestead-Miami Speedway, which awarded titles from 2002-19 as the season finale, will return to that slot in 2026.
