Woolworths customer's secret to getting ‘free money' every time she shops: ‘Earned $1,400'
A Sydney mum has shared how she is getting 'free money' each time she does her grocery shopping at Woolworths. The mum said groceries were one of the 'biggest expenses' her household faced and every dollar made a difference.
Tracy Hall spends about $250 per week on groceries for herself and her 14-year-old daughter, which she gets delivered. The 49-year-old author and speaker told Yahoo Finance she'd been using Cashrewards to claw back some money.
'Every time I shop, which is weekly, it might be $1 or $2,' Hall said.
'So it's not a huge amount, but you are spending the money anyway, and groceries are expensive, so it all helps.'

Hall has been using the cashback platform for the last few years at Woolworths, along with other sites like Amazon and Virgin, and has earned $1,400 back so far across all her spending.
'I use it for everything from clothes to travel to tickets, running shoes, and car hire,' she said.
'Whatever I buy, I always check to see whether there is cash rewards cashback, and then I do that and go through that way.'As an existing Woolworths customer, Hall gets 0.4 per cent cashback on online orders over $200. This rate is boosted to 3 per cent for new customers.
'Sometimes they will do a deal, and it will flash up with whatever the deal is that week,' she said.
'But I'm spending the money anyway, so I just see it as bonus money.'
Cashrewards is one of the two major cashback platforms in Australia, along with Shopback.
Shopback currently offers 2 per cent cashback for new Woolworths customers spending $50 or more online, dropping to 0.25 per cent for existing customers.
The platforms also offer cashback for Coles. Cashrewards offers 2.5 per cent cashback for online orders over $200, dropping to 0.1 per cent for orders under that.
Shopback has 0.5 per cent cashback on Coles online orders over $200, dropping to 0.15 per cent.
Cashrewards research found 40 per cent of its members had used its platform to get cashback on their groceries.
Hall said the rising cost of living meant she had gotten more 'conscious' of her money and how much she was spending on groceries.
She's found meal planning and buying her groceries online to be helpful.
'It's mostly just ensuring that there's enough food for us to not have to do a last-minute dash up the street to the expensive IGA or to Uber Eats or do a canteen lunch, which would set you back $15 or $20,' she said.
'When I shop online, I'm always filtering by the best unit price and things like that. I think online shopping stops you spending more.
'When I do go to the grocery store, I always buy things that I never expected to buy, like when you go to Ikea for one thing and you walk out with 10.'
Hall said she lets her cashback build up and tries to put it towards discretionary spending that she wouldn't ordinarily splurge on.
