Group of suspects keep stealing Birkenstocks from Tracy shoe store, police say
TRACY – Detectives are asking for help in identifying a group of thieves who keep stealing Birkenstocks from a Tracy store. The Tracy Police Department says the group hit the same shoe store on Naglee Road at least twice this month. In both incidents, the suspects made off with their hands full of Birkenstock boxes. 🚨 WANTED: BIRKENSTOCK BANDITS 🚨 We need your help identifying this group of overachievers who've apparently made it... Police remind drivers of safety precautions during Distracted Driving Awareness Month
( — As April marks Distracted Driving Awareness Month, multiple law enforcement agencies throughout northern California are reminding drivers to stay focused, to keep their eyes forward and their hands on the wheel to save lives on the road. The Stockton Police Department and the Tracy Police Department said they will be actively looking for drivers violating the state's hands-free cellphone law. Elk Grove Police Department expands drone capabilities with new updates The 2024 California Statewide Public Opinion Survey showed that the biggest concern for nearly 74% of drivers surveyed was distracted driving because of texting, 148 people were killed in distracted driving crashes in 2022 alone, according to officials. The police departments remind drivers they are not allowed to hold a phone while driving or even when stopped at a red light. Both agencies emphasize that using a handheld cellphone while driving is punishable by a fine. Both police departments gave tips on how to avoid distracted driving: • Put your phone away: Silence notifications and store your phone where you can't reach it while driving.• Plan ahead: Set your GPS, adjust mirrors, and finish any tasks before you start driving.• Keep both hands on the wheel and eyes on the road: Avoid eating, grooming, or adjusting controls while driving.• Be a role model: Show your passengers, especially young drivers, that focused driving is the norm.• Speak up: If you're a passenger and see the driver distracted, kindly remind them to stay focused.• Pull over if necessary: If something urgent comes up, stop in a safe place before responding.
