KOTA KINABALU (May 14): Joyce Heng further enhanced her reputation as one of the country's top women arm-wrestlers by picking up another international title last Sunday. Joyce, who is a household name in the strongest women event, proved she was equally outstanding in other sporting arena by winning the Women's Open title in the recent Perlis International Arm-Wrestling Tournament. A great display of strength and technique saw Joyce edging the challenge from Nur Ain Osman in the final to emerge as champion. Third place went to Nur Hidayu Nor Rongzi. When contacted, Joyce revealed she would never had entered the tournament if she knew beforehand a similar competition was taking place back home. 'I had already booked my flight ticket (to Perlis) when I saw a poster of the traditional games in Kapayan. 'Nevertheless, I am happy to have won although it was never easy. 'The hot weather in Perlis was a real challenge too,' said Joyce, who was the only Sabah entry in the Perlis tournament. The Penampang lass went on to say she would be frequently seen in arm-wrestling event since very few women's competition is taking place in the Strongestman challenge. Up next for Joyce will be the arm-wrestling tournament in conjunction with the state-level Traditonal Games in SMK Bahang, Penampang from May 24-25. 'I will also be competing in the national arm-wrestling championship in Melaka from July 18-21,' she said.
