MoI installs hi-tech cameras to trap seat belts, phone violators

KUWAIT CITY, March 27: Before the implementation of the new traffic law on April 22, the Ministry of Interior has completed its preparations for enforcing the new fines, including a public awareness campaign on the law's provisions. In this regard, Head of the Traffic Awareness Department at the General Traffic Department Major Musaed Al-Aslawi said the traffic control and surveillance cameras, along with newly deployed cameras, are capable of monitoring a range of traffic violations, particularly those related to seatbelt use and mobile phone usage while driving. Major Al-Aslawi revealed the types of traffic cameras deployed at the roundabouts, intersections, and main and internal roads in various areas of the country. He explained that different types of cameras are used to monitor traffic conditions, including surveillance cameras, artificial intelligence cameras, point-to-point speed monitoring cameras, and modern cameras designed to detect violations such as 'no Uturn' and mobile cameras. A total of 413 traffic surveillance cameras, located at intersections and linked to the traffic control room, are designed to monitor congestion and alleviate bottlenecks by adjusting signal timings. These cameras also track violations such as mobile phone usage, failure to wear seatbelts, children sitting in the front seats, crossing solid lines, and obstructing traffic. These cameras are monitored by staff in the operations room. They cover all directions at intersections and record the aforementioned violations. Furthermore, there are 421 fixed traffic enforcement cameras placed on main and internal roads, roundabouts and intersections. These cameras are designed to monitor speeding and red signal violations. The footage from these cameras is carefully reviewed after data extraction to verify recorded violations. If a violation is confirmed, it is sent to the violator via the government application Sahel. If, during the review, it is found that the driver was using a mobile phone or not wearing a seatbelt, these additional violations are added to the main violation. There are 252 artificial intelligence cameras deployed on most roads and internal areas. These cameras are designed to monitor seatbelt violations, children sitting in the front seats, mobile phone usage while driving, and lack of lane discipline. These AI cameras also undergo a review process, and if a violation is confirmed, a notification is sent to the driver through the Sahel app. Like the traffic enforcement cameras, these AI cameras register seatbelt violations for both the driver and the passenger, while mobile phone usage violations are only recorded for the driver.

Dubai Police Distributes Over 325,000 Iftar Meals to Ensure Safer Roads During Ramadan

In a dedicated effort to enhance traffic safety and prevent accidents, Dubai Police has distributed more than 325,250 iftar meals to motorists as part of the 'Ramadan Without Accidents' campaign. Running since the start of the holy month, the initiative aims to curb reckless driving during the moments leading up to Maghrib (sunset prayer)—a time when many motorists rush to break their fast, often resulting in accidents. Addressing a Critical Time on the Roads Major General Saif Muhair Al Mazrouei, Director of the General Department of Traffic, highlighted that the Traffic Awareness Department has implemented this initiative in collaboration with key partners, including the RTA, Dubai Civil Defence, Dubai Health Authority, Emirates Red Crescent, and several private sector entities, with the support of over 375 volunteers. Curbing Risky Driving Before Iftar Al Mazrouei noted that traffic violations and accidents peak during iftar time, with drivers speeding or jumping signals in an attempt to reach their destination before sunset. He urged motorists to plan ahead, follow traffic rules, and exercise patience, stressing that 'Arriving late and safe is better than not arriving at all.' A Spirit of Social Unity He further praised the volunteers and partner organizations, emphasizing that the campaign reflects the UAE's values of compassion and community solidarity. By promoting responsible driving and road safety, Dubai Police continues its mission to achieve a Ramadan free of accidents, ensuring the well-being of all road users. Only 30 Water Spraying Incidents Reported, Violations Drop by 98%

KUWAIT CITY, Feb 26: Colonel Fahd Al-Essa, Director of the Traffic Awareness Department at the Ministry of Interior, has commended the public's cooperation in ensuring that this year's national celebrations were held in a civilized and orderly manner. He revealed that only 30 reports of water spraying were received, marking a 98 percent decrease in incidents compared to previous years. Al-Essa highlighted that Kuwaiti citizens and expats adhered to the Ministry of Interior's instructions and guidelines, which emphasized respectfully celebrating the national occasion, free from traffic violations and negative behaviors seen in past years. The success of the celebration was attributed to careful planning, which included deployment instructions from First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, Sheikh Fahad Al-Yousef. Security forces were strategically stationed at key locations across the country, including popular gathering spots like the Abdali and Wafra farms, chalets, Kabd, Jaber Bridge, Subiya, Martyr's Park, and Arabian Gulf Street. Al-Essa noted that the efforts of field agencies were further supported by 194 female students from the Women's Police Institute, as well as officer students, ensuring efficient handling of reports. Additionally, coordination with the Environment Authority helped address certain issues, contributing to a smooth and civilized celebration. On the day of the celebration, authorities received 30 reports of water spraying, which were referred to the relevant authorities for legal action, along with two reports of run-over accidents, which fortunately resulted in no injuries. Only four reports of minor accidents were filed, representing a significant drop in incidents. In total, 4,000 various traffic violations were issued during the celebration period.
