Woman Enters AC Coach Toilet, Screams On Seeing Smoke. Here's What Really Happened

Last Updated: After the woman screamed, nearby passengers panicked upon seeing smoke from the toilet. The TTE opened the door and stepped in. What he found was shocking A startling incident occurred in the Jhansi division of North Central Railway when a woman travelling in the AC coach of a train discovered smoke emanating from a toilet. Upon entering the toilet, she screamed, attracting the attention of nearby passengers. They were similarly alarmed when they saw smoke coming from the toilet. The Train Ticket Examiner (TTE) soon arrived and opened the door, revealing a passenger smoking a cigarette inside, which is prohibited on trains. Consequently, the TTE imposed a fine on the offending passenger. This incident underscores ongoing efforts by the Jhansi Division to ensure cleanliness and compliance on trains and station premises. In 2024-25, campaigns aimed at providing good food, clean drinking water, and hygienic toilet facilities led to the collection of Rs 10,25,893 in fines. Of these, Rs 7,15,863 were collected from 3,530 passengers for littering, and Rs 3,10,030 from passengers for smoking. According to Indian Railways regulations, spreading dirt or smoking in train or station premises is a punishable offence, potentially resulting in fines, imprisonment, or both. The railway authorities urge passengers to maintain cleanliness and refrain from smoking to ensure a pleasant and respectful travel experience for all. First Published:
