Loughborough sea cadets set sail with new ship simulator
Sea cadets in Leicestershire will benefit from advanced maritime training after a community grant helped pay for a state-of-the-art ship Sea Cadets received £2,750 as part of Charnwood Borough Council's community grants project, which also received funding from Loughborough University, will allow cadets to practice their navigation, seamanship and command skills in a controlled and realistic environment. Cadet leaders said the technology means they will experience "unparalleled preparation for their time on the water".
By simulating real-world maritime conditions, it provides training in leadership and decision-making, preparing cadets for real-life challenges at sea, the group said.
'High quality'
Sarina Martin, chair of the Loughborough Sea Cadets, said: "We are committed to providing young people with high quality training, fostering confidence, teamwork and discipline through maritime education."The addition of the ship simulator marks a significant step forward in ensuring cadets receive unparalleled preparation for their time on the water."The sea cadets group is based at Training Ship Venomous off Beeches Road in Loughborough, and supports young people from the town and surrounding meet every Tuesday and Thursday and are appealing for new cadets and instructors to one of the cadets, said: "The ship simulator has helped us cadets since it gives us new opportunities to do something we have never done before."
